in a sense it is similer to yugioh, as hikaru awakens an old spirit living inside a go board (Sai) and learns Go by letting Sai play through him, as noone but Hikaru can see him.

It's alot better then yugioh though, and Go is a much more interesting game. But I have two warnings for you - 1) it was never finished, so once you get to the "end" you'll only be wanting more...much more. and 2) you'll probably become addicted to Go.

Aside from that, it is a good anime. If only it was still going.

btw: regarding animation on the sig: why all japanese animations representing even the simpliest moves have to look that awful?????

9/10, would be 10/10 is i was a fan of starwars.

And I think Japanese animation looks fine.

It's not as realistic as some of the stuff out there, but anime isn't suppose to be realistic.

as for a Go program, there are a few. but none free. Go is a very, very complex game and it's very hard to create an AI capable of competing against a human player.

There are several free places where you can play against other humans via the net, though. usgo.org has some links, and alot of general info on the game.

as for the background, it's very good for this particular sceen. see, in this game, hikaru is playing very, very fast. literaly, the very second the opponent makes his move, hikaru makes his. the people watching the game are suprised, as it seems he's playing without thinking.

then, one of the spectators points out that he does have time to think - durring the opponents turn. thats when this sceen pops in, this is the sceen of hikaru reading the board, and predicting where his opponent will move and calculating the moves he should make in order to win.

the sceen in my sig is from the same game.

and it's from ep 62, if anyone is wondering.

not all movement animation is like that... good example? Ghost in the shell - any of the movies or series...

BTW, corran, 7.5/10, i like it but its starwars related, and atm im a little bored of starwars.
