Re: in remembrance of those who have fallen

Now that the day has past...

I want to say something...

The Uk media stinks, they hardly ran any articles to remember what happened that day...!

Did we forget already what happened that day...?

Six years to forget... :?
"Revolution 2011!!!"

The Normalcy Bias

The normalcy bias refers to an extreme mental state people enter when facing a disaster. It causes people to underestimate both the possibility of a disaster occurring and its possible effects. This often results in situations where people fail to adequately prepare for a disaster, and on a larger scale, the failure of the government to include the populace in its disaster preparations. The assumption that is made in the case of the normalcy bias is that since a disaster never has occurred that it never will occur. It also results in the inability of people to cope with a disaster once it occurs. People with a normalcy bias have difficulties reacting to something they have not experienced before. People also tend to interpret warnings in the most optimistic way possible, seizing on any ambiguities to infer a less serious situation.

Are you suffering from normalcy bias?

Re: in remembrance of those who have fallen

indeed, it was a sad day.

May the souls of those who lost their lives on 9/11 and the 7/7 london tube bombings (i know this is a different day, but terrorism is terrorism) find peace

The weekend after 9/11 (I think it happened on a Tuesday), I went to Home Depot and bought a river birch that I planted in my back yard as a tribute to those that had died. That tree is now quite a bit larger and beautiful. We put my daughter's little outdoor table and chairs in its shade where she has tea parties with her dolls.

If we ever move away from this house, I'll tell the new owners about the significance of that tree.

Re: in remembrance of those who have fallen

I have cleaned this thread of any and all political discussion. This topic is not meant to be a political discussion, it is meant to be topic to remember those who died in this tragic even. To treat the thread as a conduit for your political debate is an insult to those who died. Be whatever opinion you have on the 9-11 event, this topic is about the loss of life that occurred and is a marker of respect to those who died.

Re: in remembrance of those who have fallen

I think everyone in our generation remembers where they were when they found out, personally I was in work when word came round and the whole 150 employees in the office stopped to watch the updates on the internet in a state of disbelief.

No one will ever forget or forgive

i disagree on that... robin is on topic the post clearly indicates that a symbolism with the tree and how it relates to remembering the lives lost that day. i think what hes getting at is that when we where attacked that we where small like a seedling and that after we where attacked our nation has grown not so much literally but metaphorically with increased patriotism and sense of community....

i remember where and what i was doing when i found out.
freshman year in high school i was in a small classroom about 20 other kids and where taking some standardized testing requiered by the state... it was about 10:30am and a ta shuffled into the room and had an odd look on her face. she told the teacher conducting the test something that made him drop everything he was holding (was a big stack of paper).
we all knew it was big cuz he lost all color in his face... thats when the test stopped and the instructor turned on the tv in the room.... to this day i am still speachless as to what exactly i saw that day on that little tv something that no one word could ever sum up, i could feel loss you knew there where people who where already dead. and you knew that each person knows someone is a freind to has a family has loved and been loved they where not simply faceless beings they had names like ours and they had goals, dark sides and light sides..... forever ingrained into my mind their lives now lost to the living but their spirits live on in the pages of eternity.
