From the point of view of a slightly newer player....
I'm just thinking... Because I remember a while ago, back when my MS was 6100:6500 and was ranked 555, now, at the same strength it's ranked 1347.
That's a HUGE slide, and you'll find endless complaints about it in my personal log.
Point is, if the big players, who expand faster than little ones, never have a reset of their MS, then the little ones will never catch up.
I'm not sure how I'll build my MS up further to make my 3rd ascension.
Getting the G&R for this second one was hard enough!
