We did this in class the other day, and I thought it was pretty neat.

Best: Abraham Lincoln
Worst: No doubt about it, our current Commander-In-Chief is the worst president ever......and the pity is he is too dumb to realize it.

Best: FDR.
Dunno about the worst.. there are quite a few I'm really not too keen on. Hoover springs to mind at the moment, I suppose, for being so useless during the depression.

Best: Washington. Not partisan, lead the revolution, went home after it was all said and done.
Worst: For the people who say Bush (the current one) is the worst - no no no no no. The absolute worst was Bush's ancestor on his Mother's side: Franklin Pierce, the only president not to receive his own party's nomination for a second term.

political correctness is a doctrine fostered by an illogical liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mass media that holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Best = John F. Kennedy (1961-1963)
Worst =
Richard Nixon (1969-1974)
Bill Clinton (1993-2001)
George W. Bush (2001- )
And @ Come_Forth do you not think Truman had to move into that 'game' ?

Re: Best/worst Presidents of the United States
Aside from his inexcusable continuation of the Vietnam conflict, Nixon wasn't a bad president in terms of policy decisions and how he ran the country. His considerable successes, especially with Russia and China, contrast rather starkly with the image people have of him. It's a shame.
Truman wanted to drop the bomb on a purely military target, rather than a city, but he was pressured into changing his decision by the Target Committee. Even if you think he made the wrong move, I don't think all the blame lies squarely with him.

You can't judge Truman because he was in charge when the atom bomb was dropped. If Roosevelt hadn't died he would have given the order.

I'm not so sure about that, personally. Roosevelt was a very different man to his successor. I don't think he'd have wanted to use the weapon like that.

Re: Best/worst Presidents of the United States
I think the best as far as leadership was FDR, even if his Depression policies did put us into a national debt of which we're still paying. Behind him, I would say Ronald Reagan for staring down the Soviet Union and winning.
Worst, I would have to say George W. Bush for being so out of touch with the feelings of the nation and Andrew Jackson, who really didn't do much in office besides ship all the Indians, Native Americans, whatever you want to call them, out west.
