It's not as if there's actually much chance of this being implemented..

Re: How politics can affect SGW........... (RL politics)
Some companies in England have started an exercise program and promote ppl to use their gym etc. (if not free then heavily discounted)
Some schools have started a "wake up lesson" where they jump around, sing etc etc.
I also need to give up smoking.
As for losing time to play? I work 3 days a week with 14 hour working days. Im usually in PPT during this. I would be up for a wake up session since i sit on a bus for 2hours in the morning. (but only if its paied)

BTW, anyone else seen the movie 1984 ?
CLICK LINK CLICKA radical plan to improve the nation's health - including a workplace "exercise hour" - has been unveiled by a leading Government adviser.
New figures today show England is the fattest country in the EU. Now Professor Julian Le Grand, chairman of Health England, hopes to encourage people to improve their diets, give up smoking and exercise more.
He proposed the introduction of a smoking permit, which smokers would be required to show each time they bought tobacco. It is then their choice to go smoke free and not buy a permit.
Companies with more than 500 staff would have an " exercise hour". Employees would have to deliberately choose not to join in. The proposalsare the opposite of the Government's approach which requires people to opt in to healthy lifestyles. Instead it would be up to them to make the unhealthy choice.
In his speech to the Royal Statistical Society last night the professor, a former aide to Tony
Blair said: "It is not like banning something, it's a softer form of paternalism."
Seen the film??? SEEN THE FILM??? The film is cobblers!
I hope you have actually read the book! /me dissapears back to lurking and to his shrine of George Orwell

Re: How politics can affect SGW........... (RL politics)
lol..politics effect everything. Take inflation, the economy is represented through politics. Politics effect our governements and by extension our societies and by further extension our points of views, which or course influence our gaming decisions and the strategies we may use. As does the educational system, once again effected by politics.
So yes, Politics does have an effect on SGW..allll the time.

1984, I've read the book, never really wanted to see the movie.
Can't see an exercise hour catching on. Personally I doubt it'll effect me as I'm self-employed, but I have a lot of friends who aren't. And where employees are constantly pushed for increased work output in increasingly smaller timeframes, I can't see companies wanting to give up a whole hour of work output for everyone. No matter the benefits to the individual.

Unlucky? As I said before, there's very little chance of this being implemented.
Every once in a while some busybody academic will come up with a 'radical plan' and present it to a cabinet minister. If it's something especially weird, or especially stupid, it'll create a bit of a media stir. But nine times of ten, they don't even get brought into the house.

Tok`ra wrote:h, but if it passes and that becomes law ....... how much further would you have to go to change it to REQUIRE people join in ?
well if it's already a law to give employees the OPTION to take 1hr 'exercise' (aka FO and do something other than work - not exercise), then it wouldn't be 'that' hard to make it compulsory. But companies would just consolidate, branch off / different divisions, sack a few people, ways around it to not loose that 500 man hours per week! (which is alot of money 'wasted')

Re: How politics can affect SGW........... (RL politics)
It wont happen. Some companies may adopt a similar policy but I dont see this being very popular. If fatty's wanted to slim down they would have done so themselves. Even if it was put through, it isn't going to help much. Tok'ra is a prime example. All his military training and he was still fat.

I agree, most will find some lame excuse why they cannot do it like they did in school. Today I start a new job in a book shop and have gotten out of an office but I want to do something physical really. I had trained for the Royal Marines but too late after too much stupidity has messed up my body, shame cause I can do the running in mud and all that I just cannot stand to attention without noticing a long term injury.
If people want to they should find the will power, more should be done for kids in school to find them sports they will love and will help them find the passion to do it for themselves.
