The origin of 'I got it down the grape vine'
A saying referring to receiving a piece of knowledge or here-say. (Rumours.)
It originated in america from wine vineyard's several hundred years ago. Basically, without the use of phones, people needed to pass a long messages without making it so amazingly obvious. EG sending some dramatic horse with a wax sealed scroll etc etc... So people used to use the vines of the grape plants to either leave messages for others to pick up, or they would move the vine, in turn moving the message with it, to deliver the message. There by someone would receive a message down from the grape vine.
The Origin of 'ok'
A saying referring to everything is alright. Commonly used in most of the western world.
This, as far as I know originated in either china or japan, where it used to be a military command/abbreviation for 'everything is calm' or 'everything is ready'. It was spelt differently (I cant begin to imagine, ooooh kay? lol) and so, when everything was calm or settled the military leaders would use OK, and in time people from the west would pick this up. (ie WWII) and the word got around!
The Origin of 'word on the street'
a lot simpler then any of the others. Originates from maaaannnyyy years ago. When it referred to the huddled masses of the commoners on the streets and in the press. SO basically those who lived and generally spent most of the days on the street. The people who mattered for votes etc. Originally 'The word out amongst the streets'.
