That's the funniest thing I've heard for ages - if you call this intellectually stimulating, then there is something wrong!

About the rule thing in Q I've often said xx amount has level 16, xx amount has UP above 2500 this wave...most of time, I didn't NAME who had it, so for "purist" of the rule, here we can go :p
Just say xx people with army over 150mil, xx amount of people above 120mil etc...
But for army sizes, I doubt it's like spy logs anyway: imagine those people are on PPT and decide to untrain spies, most will be able to see them!
In my side, with 3.7mil spies trained, I didn't see over 3 people above 155mil army size. And I saw almost everyone, well not top 10 unfortunately, just the rest..

Re: Behold! I have done it - Are you in the Top?
I apologize for amusing you with my interests - here's a little about me, maybe you'll understand why.
I'm an undergrad majoring in Biomedical Engineering. Engineering has a lot to do with gathering data, modeling it and making assumptions..etc. I am also doing plenty of research (Polymer research to be exact) I work with polymer simulations trying to find which polymers can maximize drug delivery to specified parts of the body. This requires making several runs, gathering data and making educated guesses on why certain polymers act the way they do, why they orient themselves in this manner around the drug (perhaps the hydrogen to nitrogen bond?)..etc. Finally, I'm pre-med, meaning I want to be a doctor. Much of being a doctor is taking evidence, forming a hypothesis and testing it - hopefully for the better of the patient.
Numbers say a lot. I enjoy gathering data and analyzing it because it is what I am doing and what I plan on doing. I can very well watch Saw 3 (gotta watch it), or go to dance practice or get drunk (which I do) or sleep in my free time. I find better use by practicing my analysis skills, and honestly, I find it intellectually stimulating.
BTW, to the person who asked about normal distribution - The top 20 alliances will be normally distributed. However, the entire game will be far from it. There will be the majority of the units in the top 20 alliances and the rest of the game will curve off due to the large amounts of inactives.

Re: Behold! I have done it - Are you in the Top?
The way I look at this is that you can either take this as something interesting to read or just ignore it. I see it as something interesting to read and something to aim for.
As for the power of alliances while you can take their power and divide by the number of members that's not going to give you the power of each individual, just the average power. So it may be a good way of finding the most powerful alliances per player but not necessarily the better alliances and individuals. And because of wars, and ascensions and other things, some people just aren't as powerful as they could possibly be.
Still it is very interesting to see and without checking I'm going to assume it was before the cap change. In a month or so it would be interesting to see how people have adjusted to the updated caps.

Re: Behold! I have done it - Are you in the Top?
Yep, this is before the cap release. Maybe in the month I shall re-do this analysis. I expect the bigger alliances to have a significant gain on the other alliances because larger players have more incomes and can take more advantage of exponential growth. In addition, coupled with restlessness and desire to stay at top will allow them to grow more than other alliances which may not be at limits. The limits were a reason why some of the larger alliances were close to the smaller alliances.
Provided I have the scatter plots of total army size versus alliance rank as well as alliance average army size versus alliance rank. The reason that the value of r (correlation coefficient) is negative is because the larger you are, the lower rank you have.
If you do not understand correlation coefficient, here's a rough definition. It varies from -1 to 1. 1 is a strong positive correlation and -1 is a strong negative correlation and 0 is a weak correlation. Usually, data of strong correlation vary from absolute value (0.9 to 1) while decent correlation is from (0.7 to 0.9).
Thus, as we all know, having the highest rank does not mean being the biggest but there is a decent correlation that it is true. Obviously, having a larger army size means more resources which means you can have more power. But if you have power, it doesn't mean you have a large army size and having a large army size doesn't ensure you power either.
Also, as it was pointed out, wars will come and go - and this is our mechanism for natural selection. For example, I will take the example of an alliance my former alliance had massed. [No names provided]. They had placed 5 mill to 8 mill of their army sizes in covert to get to Page 1. After we massed them, they were down to Page 3 with losses of one third to one half of their sizes. Natural selection proves that those without large army sizes will not stay in power for long.
I will try to analyze the power-army size data. Thanks for that one, Tekki.
Tekki, you brought up a good idea. Maybe next time I can also analyze total power versus total army size as well as average power versus average army size because both factors are more important and detailed than alliance rank.

Re: Behold! I have done it - Are you in the Top?
Please note that ranks do change as well as army sizes. For example: TJ was 16th when data was acquired and is 15th now.
