Boobytrapped ranks

Okay it's been one of those days, so I'm thinking *totally* outside the box.

What about boobytrapped ranks, with some sort of major handicap?

Pick a few globally recognised numbers and make those, ranks you absolutely *don't* want to be at.

For example 13, 666, and 911

Watch chaos ensue...

Before you dismiss it altogether life and war are minefields, my friends... what's wrong with putting up a few tripwires to make it more interesting?

This'll be my first and last post on the subject, since it's unlikely to be popular and even less likely to be implemented. Just trying to fire people's imaginations...

actually the number of the beast is 616 not 666.

Hmm, I like it. Would be interesting, especially for a higher rank like 13. Would be funny watching people try and leap-frog it. Although good effects for other ranks to counterbalance them would be useful also.

well the verse in modern biblical text is
"Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."
which is 666, but the oldest known record of the verse gives the number 616

lol..thats odd cos on 'QI' it was apparently 665, and the 5 was read wrong as a 6 instead.

i like it, it would some original feature to the game to make it more interesting.
though i think it should be solely certain ranks at which you have a bad handicap.
(so no positive bonuses at a rank)

yup, 665 is another version from an ancient source

Can't believe this thread got any mileage...

Had a better idea... have a black hole floating around. When it latches onto a rank, that rank's production stops (time dilation, yada yada) and everyone +/- 10 of that rank gets progressively weaker effects... Instead of specifying a rank, make it random - so it's something you have to keep an eye out for and jump ranks to get away from it. Kind of like John DeLancy playing pool with a black hole as the cueball...

Although I suspect introducing a random element will be even less popular... Anyway WTH is a Q doing in sgw?? :lol:

this would be interesting... to make it strategic you could make it bands of ranks for the ones that are lower down... for example its pretty unlikely you'll be at the 2000 rank for 2 turns in a row... put a band - say 2000-2100 type thing.
