Problem with planet beacons?

So I just used one of my beacons in an attempt to find a lost planet.

Instead of telling me where the planet is, it gave me the following error...

"not your beacon."

Does anyone know why this could have happened?

Re: Problem with planet beacons?

Ouch! Sorry mate!

The price of beacons, that's gotta suck.

Only thing I can think of is maybe whoever has it now installed their own beacon. Would that disable the existing one? Just a guess, otherwise, wouldn't have a clue... it'll be a month or three before I can even dream of affording a beacon.

Re: Problem with planet beacons?

well, the price of beacons isnt an issue, its the loss of the planet. Getting 500 bil naq to buy and build a new planet is more difficult than you might think.

I just want to know why this happened. I dont want to risk using my other beacons until I know I wont lose those planets too.

Oh believe me, it's not. I'm more of a n00b than that I know how hard 500bil is to come by... :-)

One thing I'm curious about though...

I see up planets being traded for insane prices - trillions. At what point does it become cheaper to buy for trillions rather than spend trillions on raw up? (Given that even with a planet, you have to spend a fortune building it's up too).

Just curious... building some knowledge for when^h^h^h^h if I ever get there...

Well, once you get up towards 100k Raw UP it costs a lot. Then it becomes cheaper to buy planets to push yourself to 300k, as opposed to buying raw UP outright.

To be honest though, once your past 15-20k raw its worth getting some planets if you can, maybe not big ones, but ones that give you enough of a bonus to make it worthwhile.

If you ever want any advice on this kinda thing, just add me to MSN and come find me when im on there sometime. I'll usually make the time to help people who need it.

Re: Problem with planet beacons?

Did you get an answer for this question yet, though?

Finding out if my theory is correct (installing a new beacon disables the old one) will be *very* useful to keep in mind when it comes to the time I can afford such things. (Also useful to know if you steal someone's planet that has a beacon, you can disable the beacon :)...

I don't think that explanation stands, though... if a new beacon disables one installed by the previous owner, beacons become pretty much useless, don't you think?
I believe there must be a reason for this, probably not a bug, but admin Jason is the most likely to know the answer.

Re: Problem with planet beacons?

Yeah, even I'm finding it hard to believe... Could it be that msdpd disables the beacon? But then why would the error message be "not your beacon" which may just be a poor choice of words for the error message, but is clearly suggestive that your "target" (presumably the planet's numeric ID) has somebody else's beacon on it now...

Re: Problem with planet beacons?

I havnt got an answer as of yet. The admin chat was cancelled yesteday so I couldnt bring it up.

My theory is that perhaps the planet is still in its abandoned state, and so isnt on anyones account, but to be honest, I dont really know.

My only thought would be the new owner is on Vacation mode?

I think you can beacon an abandoned planet but not sure.

Re: Problem with planet beacons?

DOn't know the answer for you-but I can answer a couple things...

MPDSD does not cancel the beacon-if the planet is on MPDSD the beacon will say that it's in a hidden dimension-but it will still give the owner and name...
Installing your own beacons does not nulify any previous beacons.

Could it be because the planet is currently in the other realm (you're in main and the planet is in perg-or vice versa)? I don't know-but that might be it...

Keep us posted please!
