@Ergon; The alternative? Hydrogen I say! There's plenty of water all around, and well, less pollution ;D

LOL
Hydrogen. Lets see at the current technology we are at with that stuff, it will cost 1 million dollers. And lets see, can we make plastic, fertiliser with Hydrogen? I think not.
And what about cars 9assuming u ment hydrogen cars). There are OVER 300 million cars in the worrld or something. We do not have near enough resouces to make over 300 mil cars running on hydrogen. So that is not the alternative!
electric cars would be better (if anyone has seen the documentry "Who killed the electric car") Explains it all.

Yeah electric cars would be good too.
As for plastic and fertilizers; There's too much plastic everywhere, that stuff takes an AWFUL lot of time to desintegrate. And fertilizers .. Well I don't know but personally, I'd choose natural ones instead of highly chemical .. I mean, you eat that stuff afterwards ..

lol im just giving an example of some common day uses that oil is involved in. Many farmers use chemicals to grow trees which come from oil. so if oil gets expensive, checmicals become expensive and hence everything increases
Oil is used to drive the cars that deliver our food so yea chain reaction. This is all neglecting the global warming issue that is occuring. That is totaly different situation

Once developed, hydrogen fuel cells would be much better for the planet.
mate klike i said there are not enough resources to craete enough hydrogen fuel cells for theplanet.
and if im not mistaken that link above is electric cars?
lets hope they get widely publiced
the thing with electric cars some may say its as damaging as oil but assuming we dont have fussion reactors working, current nuclear powreplants can produce CLEAEN electricty with no polutants released. So cheep clean electricity + electric car = PWNAGE
ahaha
nice link btw... interesting i must say
must watch "who killed the electric car"
very good documentry on electric cars lol

They're already in use in Europe are they not?
according to the site they are only avaliable to USA..=[
wish i could get one here in australia lol

The thing with nuclear power, is nuclear waste. Takes quite awhile to loose all it's bad radioactivity so people bury them in big blocks of concrete =S Ain't that clean.

haha thats whree your wrong.
95% of all "nuclear waste" is not waste at all. Only 3% of the fuel rods that are used are fissioned, leaving about 95% of good nuclear fuel left. If you look at france, they reprocess their waste and look at them.
And storing the actual waste isnt that hard. Just keep them in water in large concrete containers onsite of the nuclear powerplant. They wont effect anyone as the concrete will stop the gamma rays from escaping. So really the problem with nuclear waste isnt that big after all. Sure three are some radiactive stuff on the pwoerplants from being exposed to radiation after all the years but it comes off after couple. Nothing a little concreate cant fix :p
america mayhave over 80 tons of "waste" but they dont reprocess the used rods so technically what they have is 80 tons of nuclear fuel. hahaha

There will be a time where all that money you stashed won't be worth anything, it's just paper after all, it's a religion really xD

When you say that I assume you are talking about the Chernobyl incident. That one is a once off. The reactor design was terrible, which caused the Control Rods (which stop the nuclear fuel rods from overheating and causing a meltdown) jammed, which caused the rod to overheat. And since it was a **Filtered** russiian design, it had no containment shell over it meaning when it had a meltdown, the readiatactive siht spread everywhere. However, when you compare this incident to a MODERN day nuclear power plant, more specifically Three Mile Island one, they also had a melt down, however since it was a modern one it had a containmentshell which stoped any of the radiactive stuff from escaping the nuclear site. No one got hurt. These days there are all these precutions.
anyway i have a physics assignment which I did recently on nuclear pwoer and why we should introduce it in australia. if you want i can upload the file online and you can have a read.

why do you say that?
Well basically my physics teacher went through this. Basically to make the Hydrogen cell it requires some resources. I cannot find the information in the internet but basically there are over 600 million cars in the world today. If we were to replace ALL these cars with Hydrogen, we wouldnt have enough resources to CREATE the fuel cells, aswell as them being EXPENSIVE. The Materials to create the fuel cells can be compared to Oil for normal cars. That is what my physics teacher has explained to us about this.
Electric cars i think may be the only road but who knwos what the future holds for us

The technology is expensive, but it's not like every car will have one or will be replaced by one. Sure, if the technology existed for practical use in a car it would cost a lot, but those 600 million cars could have it added to over 10 years, and new cars could have H fuel cells. Even then, if the technology were avaliable it's not like everyone would replace their car with a new one featuring an H fuel cell.
It sounds like your teacher has created a false dilemma.
