hero. he had cause and was not breaking the law, only protecting his neighbor from selfish, lazy ****s
political correctness is a doctrine fostered by an illogical liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mass media that holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

he's certainly no villain, but by god he is not a hero, a hero would have done it without killing them..

Re: Joe Horn: Hero or Villain

i too prefer pistols..though i like a shotgun (ive only had the pleasure of firing a shotgun once...with TT and iron duke..)

how can u do it without killing them...shoot at the air..as a start..

if that dosent work...blow one of their legs off...they will most likely die..but at least you tried.

please dont get me wrong..he did the right thing..but you asked whether i thought he was a hero or villain and my answer is neither. It's not heroic defending your land and local area, thats a natural way of things..one defends ones territory.. but an old man doing all this..that's what makes it special.. and an heroic act..but not necessarily a hero performing the act. There is a very fine line.. :-D

Re: Joe Horn: Hero or Villain

I think he meant, quite literally, fire into the AIR (ie. a warning shot)

Jack wrote:...Mr Horn notices the burglars are "escaping" and...grabs his shotgun and runs outside to confront the criminals...hear Mr Horn demand the suspects to stop saying "Move, [and] you're dead!", you then hear three shots as Mr Horn shoots and kills the suspects.

Now my question is to you, is Mr Horn a hero, for standing up and defending his neighborhood from these criminals, or is he a villain for taking the lives of men who's crime was stealing cash from his neighbor?

A question for someone to ask is:

Is it justified to kill a man for stealing your jewelry?

Is it justified to kill a man for stealing your cash?

Is it justified to kill a man for stealing you food? a woman? 18 year old?

The ends do not justify the means, for me. What if he needed the cash to pay a medical bill (rhetorical question... because I know someone will try to answer the ones above)?

What just happened was a 61 year old man said the lives of two men were worth a few dollars.

Here's another rhetorical question:

Your mother doesn't have enough money for ______ (doesn't matter what... could be a doc. bill, could be for groceries, could be for drugs, could be for rent.. whatever; doesn't really matter what)

Would you feel the same way if I killed her for breaking into my neighbours house for cash? What about your father? Brother? Sister? What if it was your son? Maybe your daughter?

Ask yourself if you would feel the same way if it was your brother who got shot, or if it was your father, or mother, or sister.

The old man said he has a right to protect himself. He also went outside, when he was told not to, and said "I'm gonna kill em!" (in the house). Is it reported that the suspects attacked him? Maybe the guy who was running away from him down the street was looping the block to get the 61 year old? Remember they are suspects they have not been convicted of anything. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Does the US not have laws protecting against excessive force?

It's almost like saying that he has a right to protect himself from someone who is running away from him. Sounds silly huh?

What I find funny is the man said the laws since 9/11 have been changed. I don't know Texas law, but: did he see Osama? Maybe it was Saddam's mentor?

I heard the recording, I though I heard "Boom. Your dead!" not "Move, and your dead!" (my ear was up close to the speaker on high volume).

If you wish to call someone a hero, and you haven't listened to the 911 recording, you really should.

He went out there knowing exactly what he was going to do, and two people are dead because he decided to take the law into his hands over some cash.

Re: Joe Horn: Hero or Villain

lol...im not saying it depends who does it..im saying to you an heroic action dosent mean your a hero. I can perform the action of a woman..dosent mean I am one. I can act liek Darth Vader, dosent mean I am darth vader. What he did was noble, but he is no hero. A hero dosent kill unless its the last resort. Ultimately those people were human beings and had lives. They could have been stealing a car, but taking their lives is the wrong thing to do, and it cannot be justified. No i'm a very critical person..and I believe a lot of people dont deserve to live, but its not my place to take from them that which I did not give, and id be punished for it.

and about shooting into the air.. fine..shoot a god dam nearby by tree or into the mud..

but you just dont murder people for stealing a few material possesions. THAT is why he is NOT a hero.

You shouldnt hero worship like this...it's people thinking like this that makes footballers get paid nearly 26x what a doctor, someone who saves peoples lives, in a year. Just bloody ridiculous.

Jack wrote:In the end he still committed a crime. And when you rob someone of their hard earned, you are robbing them of part of their life, you're stealing the hours, days, weeks, months, years they spent to earn their money and to buy the things they own.

OH! and as for robbing someone of their lives..lol..there is a thing called insurance. If they dont have the foresight to have insurance then they bloody deserve to lose what they do..

furthermore, your so called hero commited a crime. He went out of his way to intentionally kill someone. He didnt have to go out in the street with a shotgun..they were doing no harm to him, he wasnt in a life or death situation, it could have been avoided.

Now I do believe murder is killing someone intentionally unless in a life or death situation. and I believe in american law its ok to defend YOUR OWN property. soooooo...dosent that make him a criminal to. Please do correct my american law if im wrong..

yes

Is it justified to kill a man for stealing your cash?
yes

Is it justified to kill a man for stealing you food? a woman? 18 year old?

yes. but cut his balls off first.

The ends do not justify the means, for me.

true. but when facing a criminal ya never know what he's capable of doing. it's like on the war, ya don't shoot them they'll shoot ya.

What if he needed the cash to pay a medical bill (rhetorical question... because I know someone will try to answer the ones above)?

why he didn't go to a charity/find a job/asked if there's something he could help with for a little cash? stop that leftist talk spacey, will ya?

What just happened was a 61 year old man said the lives of two men were worth a few dollars.

what just happened was a man fighting crime and saving a lot of hassle (trial costs, jail costs - normal ppl pay them) and also prevening them from doing more harm.

Maybe your daughter?

i'd congratulate ya

are ya mad or what? guys entering a house through the window and getting out with bags full of stuff and ya call them "suspects"???

It's almost like saying that he has a right to protect himself from someone who is running away from him. Sounds silly huh?

what if he's running to the car hidden somewhere to get a gun and come back? never heard of things like this? come to dublin then...

What I find funny is the man said the laws since 9/11 have been changed. I don't know Texas law, but: did he see Osama? Maybe it was Saddam's mentor?

9/11? there was nothing bout 9/11...

I heard the recording, I though I heard "Boom. Your dead!" not "Move, and your dead!" (my ear was up close to the speaker on high volume).

afaik there's 2 versions: the "boom" one and "move" ona. maybe it's texan accent (if ya go to donnybrook ppl sey "but" but ya hear them saying "bush", ppl from tipperary say "guy" but ya hear "gay")

If you wish to call someone a hero, and you haven't listened to the 911 recording, you really should.

so i listened

He went out there knowing exactly what he was going to do, and two people are dead because he decided to take the law into his hands over some cash.

fair play to him.

how abut we go now to rob spaceys house and we'll see what he'll be saying afterwards?

btw: here the law is different, but them culchies show gutts too ;)

Re: Joe Horn: Hero or Villain

regarding the insurance thing:
1. it'll take a long battle to get any money off them
2. after paying you compensation they'll raise yer premiums so they get that money back within 1-2 yrs
