That's apparent. No one is arguing that some forum members should receive special treatment.

Back on-topic. I don't even think swearing should be "illegal" on the forums. I think we're all mature enough to use the naughty words.

These forums are pretty innovative, is there anyway to have a filter dirty words option that is by default on, but a user can turn off from the User Control Panel? That way, when someone is "offended" by a dirty word, they are the only ones that can be blamed.

Also, I think we need a new "ombudsman". I don't even know who Mystake is. I've never talked to him, so I don't know his priorities, and he's never talked to me(or many other users I bet), so how does he know what I(and others) want on the forums? His position should either be nominated and voted on by forum members, or just removed.

I won't know what you want unless you talk to me about it.

I've had others talk to me, so I address their issues.

Re: What would you say to a new rule?

yeh i don't know him, haven't talked to him yet.
but if i ever felt the need i know where to find him.
not wanting to know him is a diff story but he is available for any user if that user so desires.

this idea is great imo,
while indeed it is true that most (not all) users are "adult" enoegh to use these words i don't think they (or any other) should be allowed to use them.

Why are those words needed? to underline arguments? to put down someone? i don't think any user should need to use any bad words

And personnaly i hate the masking since i find it very ... i mean if you can find ways to go around the filter should'nt you use that originality to actually make a post that is not bad-mouthing but much more better? adding bad words imo doesn't strengthen opinions it just shows you lack the decent strength to defend an opinion. but not all the blame on you fellas since i think you shouldn't even NEED to defend your opinion. on such a level.
Don't be lured into bad-mouthing by other users. take it to a personal level (eg pm, msn) and talk things out. bad-mouth all you want in private but don't try to act "tough" on a public forum because you can bad-mouth.

Don't think so. Besides, some (most) of these words are considered inappropriate even among adults. It's a matter of basic savoir-vivre (spel?).

Exactly. Why? But there's one way to deal with such ppl: IGNORE THEM. They'll get bored and either stop or leave.

Mr Mystake wrote:Masking;

Any form of masking is grounds for an immediate warn, masking bigger more vulgar words that I won't mask here for the sake of not being a hypocrite for a change will result in a minimum 1day to 7day suspension.

Why?

Because masking in itself is blatantly breaking the rules. You know when you mask that you break the rules and its a conscious effort. It's a problem that some may have seen that person a masks and gets a warn while person b masks but doesnt get a warn.

Would this be a fair way to end it? Yes, the forums are for fun, but then we can have clean fun too right?

its a rule in the temple and if i recall correctly it was Capo who managed to make the rule nessicery.

Re: What would you say to a new rule?

Heres what i think of your new RULE

STHU.

If you can't handle the words, RUN RUN AWAY. Cause EVERYWHERE YOU TURN the works are there. Go watch TV, you will see, go read a book. Go play some PC games, go to your sports events, go to the airport and get on the plane, go to a bar, go to a high school, junior high. THE WORDS are everywhere.

SO, GO grow UP!
It's a word, they are words they are a form of expression. You want to control, what i can say and thing, well i've got a few partys you can join, There the Nazi, party, the Commie party, and sometimes the liberal party.

When it comes down to it, One thing worth my life is freedom of speach.

If you don't like it, DON"T listen, don't read it, just skip, from a mental block, where hay he's just saying *Beep*.

SO in otherwords,

I'm for masking, i'm for stating my mind.

Better them, then harper!

As for masking in itself, I use the words on a daily basis. But, the actual point of this rule is to create a concrete base that no one can claim abuse upon. You do 15km/h over, you get a 100$ speeding ticket, not 90$ today or 110 tomorrow. As for the cop giving u warnings, we have a warning system here too.

Again, I use the words regularly, doesn't mean we don't have people on the forums who will whine when person 1 gets warned but person 2 doesnt.

And why do we need speed limits again, the germans live without them. Not too many people die on the Autoban, if you look, it might be less then on our highways.

Re: What would you say to a new rule?

Masking swear words shouldn't be allowed fullstop.

I swear all the time in RL - and I mean all the time. I don't think I ever complete a sentence without some sort of profanity.....but here you have the time to think about what you're going to write - come up with something more imaginative and intelligent than just masking swearing....

Then theres the fact that a lot of people on here are quite young - I know we can shrug it off that they'll already know the words etc - but it doen't mean they accept it in common useage - if they see everyone on here doing so, they will do outside the forums and in RL - I know if I were a parent of a young kid on here I wouldn't be too impressed ;)

SO, GO grow UP! [/QUOTE]

What you age is or what your personal standards are is not the question.

This is just something within the community which i believe goes beyond age, maturity.
You may be mature enough to mask, curse and stuff like that. I don't mind that much but i do believe a standard must be put in, since masking can be just as bad as cursing imo you can take masking just as far as cursing.

I know for some it feels like you right of free speech is at stake but i never believed such a thing existed on public forum, places, etc.
Then tell me why is it forbidden to put up pornographic material or stuff like that since it also falls in that catergory IMO.

Internet is not the place for you to dump all of your cursing, etc.
While it may be so for other people (personal standards), this is a community-based issue on a "private" forum
