What OS do you run?
I'm afraid most here will be either part of the greater or lesser evil... But maybe there are a few who use good software

Meh, they both are about equal in my opinion... And I work with both on a daily basis... Although Vista needs the bugs worked out of it before I let it out of a VM. lol. Of course I have Leopard in another VM as well...
Come on... there have to be more true geeks in the community... people who run pure OS's... fully customizable ones... Ones that don't act as resource hogs... anyone??

I assume that Cyberblade also runs either Linux or Unix...
I find those two not compatible enough.

Well, up until a year or so ago I would have had to say *sigh* that MS was pretty much the best option for the average enduser... thats no longer the case though.
I do use XP some-mostly at work, but sometimes because I can't run a few things-even with wine.

I do run mostly Linux-currently running Ubuntu for my PC's and Debian for my server... What do you mean by "not compatible enough" Linux and Unix won't talk to each other? I have more compatibility issues between different versions of M$ office...

Not that they won't talk to each other. But with programs.
It's true there are cross platform programs, but they tend to not work as well on Linux, in my opinion.
I find no problem with MS office. Even switching from office 2000 docs to 2003.

Tell me what you need to do and I will tell you of a program that does it in Linux
2000 to 2003 is pretty much ok. unless you did any formatting (like for publication). 2007 has a bunch of compatibility issues (in order to open those documents on 2003 you have to download and install a converter) and 97 and XP have issues talking with anything.. well, like I said-if its just plain text you're fine... its just the formatting that goes screwy. I use OpenOffice all the time-no problems there-opens and saves to everything... and theres no paperclip!

Re: What OS do you run?
Lol, i use Microsoft Vista ultimate edition and XP, i have a few computers so i have to use both. I wish an apple OS with parallel processing and the layout of Microsoft windows would be made, it would be fast and be easy to get used to (may differ, I've been using windows all my life, but some people use apple software, etc). I only use Microsoft OS' cause most of the programs i use and find is only compatible with Microsoft OS'

I tried vista on my main machine... Lasted about 2 days-it kept crashing... And most of the programs I tried to install wouldn't run... Add to that the bad security, the invasive EULA, and the fact that it ran as fast as molasses flowing uphill...
If you want an OS that looks like windows-but runs a lot faster just google for linux distros or frontends that will make it look like windows... I know of plenty of programs that are windows only-but is there anything that you cant do with another program in linux?

Re: What OS do you run?
Ouch, LOL. My new laptop came with vista but i needed a version better then home premium, cause i need to network my laptop, so i got ultimate instead of business cause of the media center. It does tend to lag a lot cause i only have 1gb RAM, which is bad, cause i use photoshop, which uses like half of it.
I don't have too much Linux experience (if any), so i dunno about that, but it would be useful. Unfortunately for my school, they don't network Linux, so i cant do anything about it. My only complaint about Microsoft machines is their inability to parallel process like apple, which i think should be compulsory
God i feel so nerdy talking like this, DAMN IT software development textbook

Re: What OS do you run?
Well, I'm running Vista, just for the games, but mainly Ubuntu, SO I didn't really vote. Wanna know something interesting, my school is starting to use a linux OS.
