Due to the large number of both PMs and posts I've seen on the subject of retaking planets, I wanted to pass along the following information.
When a planet changes hands, a certain number of production facilities are destroyed on the planet. The cost of upgrading production, however, does not decrease to match the loss. Therefore, depending on the size of the planet, the number of production upgrades, and the number of upgrades lost in the removal, it may or may not be worthwhile to retake the planet, EVEN IF YOU HAVE BLANKETED THE SURFACE OF THE PLANET WITH BEACONS!
For example:
Planet 31,123,968,000 Income per Day 8626 (Def: 25,878,000,000) monsterous
I made sure to remove it immediately after the turn so I had some time to examine it because planet production is recalculated after the turn. The planet lost 5,065 production facilities in the removal. Immediately after taking it, the stats were the same (31,123,960,000 income) with a cost for upgrade of 76,000,000 naq.
However, after the turn the production stats dropped to 23,497,728,000 but the cost to upgrade to the next production facility remained at 76,000,000. If the previous owner decides to take the planet back or finds it with a beacon and removes it from a new owner, the planet will lose ANOTHER 4-5K production facilities and the cost to upgrade it will STILL be 76,000,000.
To recap...
Yes, I'm getting tired of the PMs saying "ha ha i dont care if you abandoned the planet, it was beaconed and ill get it back".
Ok, I don't care if you get your planet back because I know that: 1) I removed the entire defense which will have to be repurchased and 2) I destroyed 10-30% of the production of the planet but the cost to upgrade it remains the same, even if you manage to get it back.
If you thought losing your planet simply meant you had to buy a new defense after finding it with a beacon, you were mistaken. I hope this information is useful to you.

That's why I make sure I'm the only one who have owed it.
I thought of this since the beginning of the Planet Age.

I bought a single upgrade, waited for the turn, and the cost of upgrade went to 76,005,000 (as expected) with a planet production rate of 23,499,264,000 (also as expected).
Once you take a planet the facilities destroyed are gone. You can't repurchase them at the same rate as before. In most cases, the cost of repurchase is quite high unless the planet had very low capacity to begin with.
I don't know who has the highest fleet strength in the game.

Ppl get to show their total strength when needed...
If Zion has 20 bils like planets do I need to make over 20 bils fleets to take it...

There is something demoralizing about having your 40 billion defense planet stripped from you in a single hit.

Re: General planet knowledge
I think theys at least know that I and TLE as whole is more then capable of doing that...so wasting resources would just be untactical
If they didnt know that would be a diffrent story and then you would b right but also we would lose an element of surprise if they had big planets...

not sure if what you are saying is right robin, at least for up planets, because in that case about 15 planets i know of that have been stolen at least once should not be able to have the same base value (7.01 mil) like 2 planets that have been made from the market, but they do

The unmodified empirical data is posted above. Draw your own conclusions. If someone has data that conflicts, I'd be glad to know about it. I simply reported my observations with a recently acquired planet. Those numbers and test results are certainly open to debate and scrutiny.

Perhaps the cost per facility is recalculated the moment you take a planet and the attribute is calculated at the turn change. *shrugs* Unlikely, but possible.

well my post reflected the nature of up planets. which is that stealing a planet doesn't make it any way inferior to a "made" planet
whether those same conditions are applicable to stat and income planets, i cannot confirm or deny as i do not have the necesary data at hand.
