Eros - Removed as Ombudsman

I have to say that as a mod, I was looking forward to Ero`sore joining the team as ombudsman, and even sent him a pm with some advice on how best to approach things and avoid bad feeling.

It has to be said though that the ombudsman/woman/person (honestly the way that got out of hand was pathetic!) has to be able to work with the mods as well as represent the community........

What actually happened, almost from the instant Eros started the job, was anomosity, trying to lay down rules, and purposefully trying to wind the mods up by petty little things such as the ombudsman/woman issue. It's not just that it was blown out of all proportion, it's more the fact that when Spacey, and everyone else who saw the thread (not just mods - it was in the honor section) tried to explain he was mistaken, he refused to accept it and was determined and insistent that he had been purposefully insulted.

Just one of a number of incidents over the past 48 hours, which have been overblown and overstepping the mark, all done, apparently, for 'the good of the community'.

Go figure.

I bear Ero`sore no ill will, but I do believe he either misinterpreted the role of ombusman, or simply wasn't ready for it.

As for Jack... Well, we've had the odd difference in the past, but I'm looking forward to working with him (as I was looking forward to working with Ero`sore).

I really don't care whose 'our' ombudsman. Because the existance of such a position is a moot point to begin with. Mods are the mediators for the admins, but a real mod is technically their own mediator. It's an oxymoron at best.

Jack seems like a great person (never acutally spoken to him, but I do respect him) and think he would make a great ombudsman.

But.......there's always a but.....

Why is there even a need for one? If a forum member has a problem with a mod, they deal with it like a mature person would. One on One.

Simple as that. Why are we trying to complicate things with unnecessary positions?

You know, California has recalls. We could always put up a poll for the community to vote whether they want Jack to replace Eros and call it our recall and "mandate of the community", something that seems to appeal to some people.

Before massings start on moderators and users, innocent people in this, I wish to make you a proposition Eros. You haven't been listening to reason from mods and the community you were once sworn in to help (and that you comment that you feel you still have a position in), but I will make another compromise with you, even though I feel you have done nothing to earn it in this entire fiasco.

Right now 52 out of 75 people say that I did not call you a woman. That is 69.3%. You wanted to poll the community and you got it. Even though you may not like the answer, you still have it. This doesn't need to go any further. What you have threatened and done speaks a lot of a person's character and honour.

I then table this proposition: That hostile actions against all moderators and those users who have decided to join with the mods stop. It all ends here. Everything. To everyone. That you and your allies let this all go and get on with your life and let other do so as well. Upon you and those allied with you doing so, I will tender my resignation as a mod.

I suspect that some people will encourage you to take it, just for the reason to get rid of me as moderator. While this taints what I am trying to achieve, and I think wouldn't teach you anything about what has happened, it is an unavoidable side effect. I would ask you to look past the encouragement you will undoubtedly receive, to take this and in the process of me removing myself fully, consider everything that I am saying and the reasons I give behind it, and to make your judgement on that.

Innocent people should not be affected because you misinterpteted what I said, and are not listening to reason the community is telling you about, and that moderators have commented on. It almost seems like you want to be on a war path, and in doing so can make a name for yourself, but is the name you're getting what you really wanted?

I'm not doing this because the mods and users can't take care of themself, they are scared, or anything like that, but because they have nothing to do with this. Mods and users should be massed because of someone's inadequate grasp of grammar and/or the English language, or their misinterpretation. In my life experience I've learned that sometimes you need to protect someone from themself. In doing this, I also am trying to protect you from yourself.

I make no statement that what I said was wrong. A low blow has been dealt to mods (for being drawn into this due to ignorance ... used in the the context of the second definition... please see below for the direct quote) and users (because their representative that doesn't want to listen to them).

I accept your proposal. In the end I am pleased with the results; the person who called me a woman resigned as a Moderator. Sure I might have lost my position, but am I really the one who's losing out here?
I am going to talk to everyone who's contacted me about massing the moderators and ask them to stop preparations. I will no longer buy an account to join the fight, BUT to those of you whom I feel have crossed the boundry (regular members), you have been added on my mass list and will be dealt with when I truely return. It may be a few weeks, or a few months, but rest assured, my satisfaction will be complete.
