Hmmm your post particularly the end reminds me of something noone mnetionned YET in the topic, a MAJOR screwing up thing.
The RAISE of the caps. I don't know which one(s) is guitly there, I believe the raid one can be the guilty one, not the buying one, as the raiding one goes with unlimited ATs.
For no big gap, put the raid cap back to first level it was, keep buying cap as it is but donnot raise it. As for UP cap one, I believe it should be upped a bit.

Recap:

Raid cap: 75-80mil (lower)
Buy cap: 120mil (equal)
UP cap: 260mil (higher)

We are meant to do it if we want to sort out problem of ATs, that would MAYBE mean that price would go down and no need to delete unlimited turns as most rich players wouldn't be able to use them.
Actual raid cap is WAY too high (others are ok).

they are all to high

remember the army cap isn't so much a cap as just slowing down your growth

Re: feeling a bit nostalgic

as some of you remember the other game we played that got reset is no longer in service. when you play a game get so far into it and then have to start again you tend to move on so it would not be in the best intrest of admin to do such a thing.

however if admin was to create a new main reality with some if not all the suggestions and make it a no reset but $10 ss per 3month access pass (he would have to cover server costs). then that would be a great idea.

i like the lifers and the planets turns is always going to be a big issue and i have said for some time we should have attack turn planets make the market price drop a little and help smaller players gain on the bigger players as they would be able to farm more raid more and do more ingame make wars more fun as it would not really effect the server

this is my 2 pennies worth and have thought like this for some time just never had the topic really to say so.

Re: feeling a bit nostalgic

All upgrades have good and bad points depending on your position in the game, I've already done my wish list of fixes / upgrades in other threads but it seems to me there might be a solution to the nostalgia here.

Does the original code for the earliest version still exist on a backup somewhere ?

If yes, could a new game of Classic SGW be started ? I wonder how many would play it and what the reaction would be :-D

Not true really, you have to look at all the effects. Getting rid of unlimited AT will push the price of AT up. Therefore the smaller players will make a killing trading AT for naq/UU to the bigger players - therefore they can grow more quickly.

That, and the fact that the scarcity of AT will mean that people will be less afraid to actually hit some of the bigger guys for naq (less chance of a being massed to death for it as there is less AT).

I don't even care if we keep raid and everything else - unlimited AT is the one thing that killed the game - without them raid doesn't mean as much and those that do raid have to raid more wisely.

As for MEZZANINE's classic SGW point - I'd play it - but it's been suggested many times before without coming to fruition.

Re: feeling a bit nostalgic

Isn't the german server the classic SGW?

Unlimited AT is definitely the game killer.

I came into SGW with raid already going so someone explain to me why raid is so bad? I mean it gives dead accounts pourpose, and gives you something to do to learn and get better at the game without getting squished at every corner.

Planets were the second worst update as well. Need to be removed.

Re: feeling a bit nostalgic

I remember when I started this game.

600k was the top army size not to mention what the UP was these days.
And yes I come from a long way in knowledge within SGW.

But when I've returned while back I bought myself a 42 mill army size account. I thougt thats amazing probally will be one of the top... Seems I need to work bit more cus IT was not thougt I can blame the seller as the rates were owk.

However I think the market turned into a bit of a problem... Since when are u only able to triple 5x the recources u want. And why ?

planets I dont know the look cool but its also a killer not to mentiont how much people use it for "I hate u messages" or "I'll kill u messages"... un-believable...

not only the old day's were better ingame , but also the behaviour of people were allot more better ...

Now people cry when u have fun with them sometimes I think "Did they forgot the purpose of the game ?"

Ofcource ... I think we all forgot why this game has been created , Role playing ?

Honestly I dont think the game is wrong but the people in it , since when did people got so bored in role playing ? Even allainces were 75% more active in recruiting do they still NO.

Only thing I see is Strong are with the Strong , Weak are with the weak. Whats the fun in that ?

Anyway I like SGW and I'll move on in it but Im pretty sure it wont get any better even with allot of upgrades.

raid is only bad coupled with unlimited AT.

if enough people petitioned admin for it i spose he would have to give the idea some SERIOUS thought...

of course the downside to that is....would it kill off main as more and more people migrate over to it???

Re: feeling a bit nostalgic

Why is any of this things you mention killing the game?
Maybe your interest in game is so low that no matter if old school is back in action you still wont have thrill when playin it.Maybe you just outgrow it.
When this things were introduced they were ussualy what people wanted.Maybe only loud minority wanted those changes(like now)but in 99% of cases was product of players wishes.
I remember Wolf385 on first front line deffending 1 AT per turn but he was so outnumber he looked funny in his quest.Same with ingame market and with increase of naq produced by UU from 20 to 40 naq.All players wishes and all highly praised when introduced and all those changes inflated the games economy and Irreversable changed the game.
I for one always managed to find interest in this game.No matter what upgrades brought.Always tried to adopt to them and make the best of them not that I was best at doing so.
I never thought the game is dieng. Why would I?Couse few of old players left?Manly they lost interest in playing the game as it is.Not couse how much it changed it.They lack time etc.
I hate when they leave it but we all will eventualy one day but until then try to find some amusement in the game ,new goal anything to get blood rushing throu your vains again.
If anything then tittle as "Game is dead" give that deadly feeling around the game not the upgrades whatever they might be.

Don't get me wrong - I don't have any problem with most things - such as raid, planets, the market etc. It is auto-generated turns in the market that I hate - and I have been against it from the outset. And it is because of these things AND unlimited AT that wars are considered by some to be 'unwinnable'. It is because of unlimited AT that single players can now 'bring down entire alliances'. And it is because of this that arrogance has spread through the game and into the forum.

Nothing has to be worked for anymore - the introduction of unlimited AT stripped away the vast majority of any strategy in the game. People used to have to more carefully consider their actions - was it worth using the precious resource of AT to make that hit? What are the consequences likely to be? These days it's 'Who cares? AT grow on trees'. If unlimited AT were removed people would have to think more wisely about how they attacked/raided - because AT would be, once, again the precious resource they ARE MEANT TO BE!

And, because they would become the precious resource they are meant to be, smaller players could make a killing selling them for naq/UU and could improve their account quickly that way.

Plus, the removal of unlimited AT would bring back a greater sense of co-operation, because in order to achieve a victory/deliver a massing, co-operation would be required. I remember the first massing I ever took part in against certain members of OoC - the preparation, co-ordination and anticipation, all online on MSN at 04:00 am GMT, and then launching into it - was brilliant - and you just don't get that anymore. Even if you do get a fair few online at once for an attack, the atmospgere is not the same.

No changes are 'irreversible' - least of all the removal of unlimited AT - the simple fact is, no matter how much they might protest, some people like it the way it is - easy - and are scared to death of having to actually do something to manage their account and grow.

Get rid of them and put some thought back into the game - with them everything is simply too easy.
