i dont know much about global economics so that idea of the EU wanting britain to join may be realistic, may not be... i just dont know. but assuming it was, i'd say Europe would win. Maybe. there are MANY nations involved in the EU and perhaps they have the firepower and the manpower to overcome the US. but then again, i dont know much about their militaries so just down to that, i'd side with the US. besides, if this situation would happen, i think were looking at another possible WWIII scenario.

The UK may have some advanced technology, but they have nowhere near the numbers or the production capacity to win a war against the US. The rest of Europe is behind the UK in military tech (by Semper's own reasoning) and for the rest of Europe to boost up production of British advanced weaponry would take time...time that they wouldn't have as the first things the US would target would be the manufacturing districts of their enemies. It's how we won WWII by destroying Germany's opportunity to build tanks and planes to fight back.

So now it's a situation where you have the giant number of US jets and ships against a maybe as advanced (I disagree, but let's move on) but smaller British and air force and navy. They would lose. Remember also that when Hitler attempted to invade Britain that he wasn't thinking the most clearly and didn't have a very solid strategy. US strategy would be much better if we're actually allowed to fight a REAL war, something we haven't done in years.

So after the smaller British air force and navy are destroyed, it would just be picking apart your cities and countryside until you had nothing left and surrendered. That said, an invasion without completely demoralizing the enemy would be pretty difficult, but possible if done right.

As I've said before, the only single country that could take on the US and make it a horse race would be Russia. They have the technology, the numbers and that shear will to fight any country. Oh and 10k+ nukes don't hurt either.

Edit: I still want to see my Raptor against your Eurofighter and my Abrams against your Leopards and Challengers.

I thought Russia had closer to 15k nukes (and bigger ones at that). but yes, Russia has the tech and the knowhow to get the most out of something. two well-known examples

The US spent a lot of money developing pens that would function in space. Russians used pencils.

Towards the end/ shortly after the end of the Cold War, US engineers got a close look at one of the newest Soviet/Russian fighters and found it used plywood in its construction, but was still able to match contemporary fighters.

hmmm, did not hear of that. I'm going more off of things I've heard (ie anecdotal evidence). if you can provide me with a source for what you say then I shall happily believe you.

One of my lecturers used to work at NASA way back and he corroborated that pencil story. I also have a good friend who is a Captain in the US Air Force and he works for NASA and he was telling me a rather funny story about working conditions over there. To keep up with the air of superiority there, announcements such as "Manually agitating the fuel valve" which actually meant "I'm beating the crap out of the frozen tap with a wrench".

And better yet, to cut costs they have moved their manufacturing to Alabama but alas the literacy rate there is so low that they have spent millions converting every single workshop manual into picture-books so their cheap workforce can actually understand them.

So yes... your F-22 Raptor is in good hands but alas it does not provide "Air Superiority" as it was superseded by the F-35 Lightning II which comes in 3 distinct varieties. So the Raptor is obsolete but sure, the US have now got the F-35... Wait...! A problem!

What problem you ask? Well perhaps we should reveal the F-35's other name, the "Joint Strike Fighter", which is being developed and produced "Jointly" by multiple countries. You can't really have "Air Superiority" when the people you're fighting against have it as well. These countries include the UK, Italy, Israel, Canada, Netherlands, Australia and Turkey.

What next? Other technologies? Fair enough, the US does have a massive R&D budget but despite that advances are being made elsewhere, namely Israel and Germany as well as the UK. Hell most of the US's major explosives breakthroughs have come about because of an old Englishman they have working for them

And as for Russia and China jumping to the aid of the US... You're kidding right? They would welcome a chance to level them. Not only removing a major natural resource black hole but also a rival. The cold war Ruskies would just love it.

But meh, who knows for certain. But if you asked me, my money would be on Europe. I mean the US still hasn't finished what they started in Afghanistan or Iraq, what possible bloody hope do they have of going against the whole European Union?

Because this would be a conventional war and not a guerilla one? Napolean was pretty successful, but he didn't do so hot when it came to pacifying Spain.
