A serious Physics Question...

Before I begin...I know I am GRANDLY oversimplifying my question...

it is not meant to be a mathematical hypothesis...it's simply a question in laymans terms, about a very complex subject...

As many of us know the LHC may produce micro-singularities during it's collisions of sub-atomic particles(neutrons as I recall)...


My question:

Does a Micro-singularity possess near-infinite mass? I do not recall the answer as it is either near infinite density...or near infinite mass...and it's been a while since I learned about them...



Reason I ask is simple...if it's near infinite mass then you could perform a rather interesting experiment...

Hypothetically speaking, imagine that it is discovered that, yes, colliding two neutrons together at near light speeds does, in fact produce a Micro-singularity...

(please bear with me)

According to theory...anything that you can do with matter...can be done with anti-matter...

Also, according to physical law, when matter and anti-matter come into contact, they convert 100 percent of the available mass, to energy...usually in the form of gamma rays...x-rays...etc...


Therefore...if micro-singularities do have near infinite mass...and you can produce them in the lab...then you can do the same with anti-matter...(producing an anti-matter singularity)

If this anti-matter singularity came into contact with a matter singularity...what do you propose would be the result?

I'd wager a great deal of energy would be released...perhaps usable amounts...(based on the fact that you would only need a tiny two particles of anti-matter and two particles of matter to cause it to occur)

Assuming I'm insane and they do not actually have near-infinite mass...but rather density...the experiment is still valid...as the reaction under such circumstances would still be of great interest...(you never know what the effect of such density would be)

if the mass of the two micro-singularities was near infinite would that not mean the reaction would go on for near infinite time as particles continue coming into contact and converting into energy?

or would the collision of the two cause the massive conversion all at once, quickly instead of slowly? if that is the case I believe the effect on a local area could be quite devastating (with a broad definition of 'local area', as I have NO idea just how much energy we're talking about)

To give some scale, if we had 1 gram of anti-matter and combined it with 1 gram of matter it would release an amount of energy comparable to that released by the Space Shuttle on liftoff..

then if the mass of a micro-singularity is near infinite the amount of energy released would be enough to wipe out.... *starts counting on fingers* [mumble]carry the two.... multiply by 5....[/mumble] all existence

singularity - place where quantities which are used to measure the gravitational field (spacetime curvature or the density of matter) become infinite.

mass+energy stays the same, so neither of these can be infinite. period.

so it won't work.

i dont fully understand the question

just gunna say it infinity density, not infinite mass
eg, the only reason a black hole has infinite gravity is cause it has any mass over an infinitly small area

true. the size and lifetime of a singularity and dependent on what created them (as I've researched.) so a microsingularity created from smashing two protons together would last only a fraction of a second, as opposed to the ancient black holes formed from the collapsing of stars.

if a mass is infinite, it will have infinite gravitational potential

also, if you look at relativistic mass

m = m0 / (1-(v^2/c^2))^(0.5)

then if m is infinite you should obtain v = c

this will also cause time dilation and the time taken will be infinite

also length contraction will make the length of the masses zero as well


so...infinite masses, with zero dimensions, infinite gravitational fields plus an infinite amount of time

presumably, the reaction will take forever and therefore never take place (to the observer0?

both. if it's dead to us, there is another universe where it is alive. if it is alive to us there is another universe in which it is dead. in either universe the live cat comes out really pissed because someone tried to kill it
