Help me! Movie fans...

Ok so i watched half of this movie the other day, and really want to watch the rest of it...However i cant for the life of me remember what it was...So il tell you as much as i can, and hopefully someone else will have seen it...

Its Reletively new, and i think set on the border between america and mexico.

Its about a Guy Who was trying to assasinate someone, possibly the president or someone of that nature, or was involved in assasinateing a person, but who then looses his memory for whatever reason i dont know i didnt watch it all...

The movie starts with the guy wakeing up in hospital, and he gets on really well with this hot nurse, but then his wife walks in and he doesnt know he has a wife...

He used to smoke, but either quit or doesnt like the idea now, but starts smokeing again in a bar.

He goes out out of the town with 2 sherriffs in cowboy hats, and he finds a cowboy hat at the bottom of a small cliff/hill and he gets a flashback (i think) of something...

Well thats all i can remember, but its killing me, i need to know what that film was i wanna see the end!

Is it a history of violence
it has viggo morginson from lord of the rings in it, sounds a bit like that, but it was a while ago since i saw it.

Did it have any famous ppl in it?

Doesnt sound liek any of those, i dont think it was a massive film as such, it was like a rodriguez or tarintino film in that it wasnt a really big film but it was a good film, if that makes sense...

Plot Summary:
In this thriller, Val Kilmer plays Frank, a man who loses his memory after being shot in small desert town in New Mexico. As he tries to retrace his steps and figure out his true identity, Frank believes he may be part of a plot to assassinate the president.
