Recently in the news in Australia there was a piece about an indian cricketer calling an Aussie cricketer a "Monkey" as an insult.... Just thought I'd prove that anything can be considered offensive even if it isnt rational... Even the use of "god"....

ie. Damn you, god damn it, damn it, Hell.... You all know... the usual things that dont make sense to be offensive.

But then again... Most Australians wont really care cause the worst we get called is either convicts or skips... I cant see how they can be offensive at all.

Ok... Sorry for perhaps not making much sense but my point is... Alot of things can be taken offensively even if they are innocent or mean no harm to the majority of the forum population. Some things may not be thought of as offensive by the person writing the post but can be taken the wrong way by others. Its all about perspective.

It's not like its exactly a childs game. The aim is to have wars and kill opposing armies. Harldy childs stuff.

Big deal if a couple of swear words are used.

Don't try and take the moral high road here, if people are mature enough to play the game, they are mature enough to see some words on a screen.

Most of the words I've seen here are just maskings of words that are banned. Masking is not allowed anyway.

I see no reason to make god a banned word.

I don't like the GD word just because of religious reasons.

Lmao please tell me we're not discussing the use of the word God on a forum for a game where people have titles like Living God, Ancient God etc. all with a capital G as well....

It still cracks me up that I was once banned from the forums for posting "Bow before your God" in a war thread. Mind you, I AM a Living God in the very game these forums are all about.

Imagine a thread about everyone's ascended status.... "I'm a living <I am sorry but I am not allowed to post this word on the forums and I am not allowed to mask it either> of the Ori.

Sometimes I wonder if the FSM is having second thoughts about creating us... People can really get quite silly about things...

i do realise that GD can offend ppl, but really, if we went through everything remotely offensive to everyone on the planet ...... then we'd have a VERY small vocabulary!!

someone threw Monkey into the mix to use as a derogatory (sp?) / offensive term as a joke......... but in the right context, this IS offensive (i can think of a good example, but wont lower myself to use it )

its stupidity to try and police an international game such as this 100%, ppl know there are some things which u shouldnt say ...... i generally go by the rule ......

I think it depends on how you were brought up and the culture you live in....you can’t ban a word if one person/culture don’t like it...I mean the F word is a universal word so of course it will be blocked but the word

no way...I’m not being a pain but I use that all the time in normal sentences and to be honest if someone takes offence to it I don’t think this is the best game to be playing as geisha mentioned earlier. Global swear words yes by all means block away but something so commonly used in a manor not for swearing but in a general day to day basis with no religious attachment nope sorry I don’t think it should be blocked.

case in point...the above is not meant to be offensive nor does it have any real meaning, just a fill in word i guess you could say.


But globally recognised swear words like the F word should be blocked its just common sense.

I swear all the time in RL - but on here you have the time to think about what you're posting and come up with something which better expresses what you want to say....so why do people need to swear on here? Most swear words don't really express anything or mean anything - you could insult someone much more effectively using different words.

Lets face it, the f word isn't bad....in fact it actually describes something I'd rather be doing right now than sitting at my laptop....it is just the context you use it in, and society which has seen it as a taboo....at the end of the day, rape should be a banned word before the f word, because rape describes a much worse act than the f word.....but society hasn't deemed it so....
