Re: Gary Gygax the father of Role playing

Why would a mod, of all people, post this in SGW general?

Because, like everyone else who posts random threads in SGW general, he wants it to get more views.

Yes, but those threads are usually moved as soon as a moderator notices them. I find it a little strange that a member of the forum staff would deliberately post something in the wrong section like this, but there we go.

And I heard Gygax was still hosting D&D at 89 years of age. That's pretty crazy.

Re: Gary Gygax the father of Role playing

I'm glad to see people ignoring something quite substantial in favour of saying how stupid I am...

Cheers

Also I put it in SGW General as SGW is a Role Playing Game... a MMORPG... he helped co-create DnD and as such one of foundations that EVERY role play game and MMORPG and fantasy game has a basis in...

thats why I assumed general would be a good place... but its in here now...

no problems caused

Re: Gary Gygax the father of Role playing

I would argue that in an off way this man helped SGW come to being. Since he is the father of role playing and sgw is a role playing game they are connected in a slight way.

Re: Gary Gygax the father of Role playing

The first Dungeon master is dead. The creator of fantasy gaming has passed away.

This game exists cos of that great mans idea and imagination.

Please guys show a little respect.

He has changed many peoples lives since 1974 when he relised the first ever version of Dungeons and Dradons. Since then a whole industry has been created, games have been desinged and fantasy has been made a little more tangable for the durration of you game :-D

Just about every body who plays this game knows about role play games, many of them will have played them at some time or another as well.

If any body thinkgs that Gary Gygax death is nothing to do with SGW then stop playing a fantasy game!

Dugeon master, I look forward to seeing up there and having a game with you at some point  Start wrighting the story now so that its finished when I get there  Ill bring the munchies, you run the game mate :-D

Re: Gary Gygax the father of Role playing

It is a sad, sad day for gamerkind... :(

I played DnD a few times...never enough to really get into it...(too complex for a table top game in my opinion), but it was the inspiration behind my own game, Chronicle...and so many others...

He WILL be missed...or there WILL be pain... >:(

*j/k*

Really though...very sad... :(

Re: Gary Gygax the father of Role playing

though I never played DnD I appreciate the huge influence he had in my life and that of many other fellow geeks and gamers.
