Re: is roll playing a form of MPD?

No we cant speculate. We can have an answer. The question is...'Is roll playing a form of DID?' Its not....

WE CAN however on the other hand speculate, as u pointed out, whether some peoples role playing is actually DID, averse to role playing. By definition role playing CANNOT be DID and vice-versa. Its not my opinion, its fact, definition whatever you want to call it.

Re: is roll playing a form of MPD?

You take words out of context.

It is the internet semper, we have no idea who the person behind the screen is. I said all we can do is speculate about who potentially has DID that role plays. I never once said that role playing is a form of DID. What I did say was "Role playing is not a form of DID however in a small way it resembles it. Good role players have a whole different personality while role playing." and I also said "I say we have Conscience DID while role playing."

The first quote of mine means that as role players we have different personalities. We assume the personality of something so completely different than our own it can be seen as someone who has DID.

The second quote means we have Conscience DID. We choose to not be ourselves and take on a different personality.

Get off your high horse and actually read what I write.

And I am just going to apologize now for a mean comment. I am having a bad past hour and I need to take it out on someone.

To wax serious for a moment...

One could, honestly, debate the clarity of the line between the two...

If, as you claim, you are studying Psychology, try this on for size...

I was diagnosed as Bi-polar several years ago before coming to these forums...I also suffered from, and theoretically still suffer from, severe social anxieties...
It is believed currently(unless new info has come to light I am unaware of) that this disorder can lead to a variety of other disorders, including DID.

The interesting part: As with most role-players, I take great pleasure in becoming "someone else", unlike many, I have come to adopt many of the traits of this forum personality...

Specifically, I am far more assertive in my real life, and experience significantly decreased anxiety, as well as (notably) a general evening of my moods, to the point that my doctors officially took me off medication and stated that they were confident I could manage my own state without further therapy....Theoretically(based on the severity of the disorder in my case) I should have required both for the rest of my life...

The point: before joining this game, and creating the Usul personality, I was anxious, prone to mood swings, and more often than not...on suicide watch due to extreme depression...

Upon creating this personality, I found myself emulating it more frequently, without thinking about it...

I now express "usul" behaviors in normal, everyday situations...without conciously intending to do so...I am aware of it...but I am also better for it...and now intentionally use the character as a way of reflecting upon myself...

Now...hows that strike you?

Role-playing to begin with, but now I really can't say that I am...
