Should ppl who don't play the game be leading the community?

Yes, this is the correct section, because it is a discussion about ingame actions against moderators and the connection between the game and the forums. So it perfectly falls under the description of the SGW General forums which reads "Forum for all general ingame discussion".

So, I have noticed that quite a few mods on the forums don't play the game or are hiding their accounts on vacation mode. I also see a pattern that they are exactly those mods who violate the forum rules without ever facing any consequences..

While the forum management often seems to ignore rule violations by moderators, I would love to just pay them a visit in game when they blatantly screw up so there is at least some form of justice.

Shouldn't this be a community forum FOR the community and managed BY the community rather than a place where some power mad kids abuse their powers knowing full well that we can't take away their toy?

If you don't know what I am talking about, it's things like

The imitation of other users by creating a user account that is intended to deceive the community into believing you are another member of the community is not permitted.

DaDigi did it and is still a mod and of course DaDigi's account is on vacation mode.

Oh and then we have Bazsy, a forum admin who quit the game and openly discriminates people for their religion and by only granting members of the "big" religions to post about their holidays:

Seriously... If all 10000+ religions could post about their big days we would end up as a religious forum...

Lets just stick to the biggest 2-3 religions. And I hope we wont have an argument over it....

When I reported that, the report was closed, nothing was done and I never got a reply.

I'm not even going to start talking about spam started by mods, the list would be too long.

So if we have to follow the mod's rules on the forums while they can ignore them at will, shouldn't we at least have the option to teach them our own rules in game?

And can someone who doesn't even play the game be classed as a member of the community? Or can they know what's best for the community?

IMHO the players are the community and mods should be playing the game too. What do you think?

They used to play, not like if they never did, then it would be really questionnable indeed, but if they don't play anymore, they can still be here and have responsabilities if they had it already or wish to have it if they can handle it properly.
Punishing the mod by ingame actions has been done before, like eros who was angry because he misunderstood spacey's post for example, I agree if an UNacceptable thing happens, different than example posted, there should be something done, maybe try instead of game massing, a poll to ask person with power to be demoted? And if fear of being locked topic is in place, then invite as much people as you can in msn and spread the word to them and ask them they do the same that at a said hour, a topic will be done, and at this moment everyone will hurry up to vote, before mods lock this, and cause then a problem of credibility to prove your point?
Because if massing ingame is approved by community, then it will be fair game and the mods who haven't luck to be in a "protected" alliance will be permanently sat on because they said this word instead of this one, they locked not soon enough, too soon, someone hadn't time to reply in a locked topic so got angry and list goes on for long!

Well as you said yourself in the bottom of your post Forums and games are not related. Therefor every user/mod/admin has the right to do with their account as they wish. As same as you have the right to mass someone for a reasson you see suited

Jason himself decided he wanted a mod and admin team. You know this as you were once part of them and almost was part of them again

If I remember correctly it were the forum/game users that forced DaDigi on vacation mode. And I also point once again to the right we have in game as games and forums are not tied.

Forum wanted atleast 1 admin that didnt play the game. He appointed bazsy for it and so far I have seen no legit complaints about him. I havent seen him discriminating anything but i could have overseen it.

Normally if a report is closed people will see the actionsdone in the post/topic anyway. There is no way in the system to give feedback unless you decide to pm the reporter. Feedback is always good however each andevery person has to make that call in his/her own

Point me to where a mod is spamming as mod. Every user spams sometimes we all do it. However we mods also have the right to post as user of this community. We are not robots who dont have an oppinion as when we have a oppinion we post it. When we use our mod color we post as mods. This is stated several times allready and it seemes it was clear for everyone. But yeah sometimes people cant let go of it.

Same as every mod has the option to not play the game. We are free to do as we wish in the game if we play yes or no. Noone can force us to play and Jason doesnt mind if he has playing mods and not playing mods. However not every mod is known in the game as he is known on the forums but same goes for many forum users

The community is more then the people who play the game. We have several games (SGW,Q,Chaos,Ascended and even ToC) However we also have our story uploader. Flash games and even a option tobuild our own forums.

IMHO the players are the community and mods should be playing the game too. What do you think?

I think every player/mod has the right to decide that on their own. We do not have the power to force anyone to play.

It would have to go as far as ingame actions if all the "proper" ways of addressing issues (like reporting posts etc) would actually lead to something.

i have warned a mod for spamming. so...
1: reports do lead to something.
2: we do subject ourselves to our own rules.

definitely not, but you need to reconsider your attitude. You are an administrator of an international game forum with people from all across the world, people from different cultures, people of all kinds of beliefs. Do you think it is appropriate in your role to say that only members of "big" religions are allowed to talk about them? I think not.

As for FreeSprirt, * your posting and your modding and your actions have been well so questional, that i feel that you should remove yourselve entirely from this discussion.* If change is to be done, i think that a few mods, and admins need to be reminded, that For most this is a forum for,SGW. Everything else is secondary, and if you would like to be or are currently a mod, and not playing SGW, then you should be! I mean really what would be the point in having a Chaos mod, who doesn't play choas or an ascension mod team that haven't ascended, or a Q mod, that doesn't play, or a market mod that never done a trade. Lol in the case of the spam mods, mods of spam that don't spam!

i Disagree with the point that all mods/admins MUST play.

this forces them into some form of bias. i personally believe that admins should NOT play, and just focus on admining. so no one can claim bias. of course, checks must also be made to make sure they don't abuse their power, but i think that is ultimately the best course of action.

Sorry HE but as much as I am a forum user i have the right to post my oppinion aswell. As a matter of fact i have spoken with geisha and she knows that i agree with some points. Well... let me start on this...

On a big international forum, religion is a tricky thing... Since we already had religious namecallings and hate campaigns on the forum, we had an agreement, that we'll try to keep religous topics at their place, and their numbers low.

When you came up with the idea of starting a topic about a religion unknown to me ( or even made up ) I was forced to draw a line about what is allowed and what is not. The line is just around the biggest 2-3 religions, becuase noone can argue over what those are... (I hope so). So we can avoid arguing over what is a major religion and what is not.

After all who would like to have 1000 topics here about 1000 different religions just because we can....

But of course, there are official ways of complaining over me. Its posted at the announcements section. Also, we have a guideline about how to handle issues, and posting in the general section is not mentioned there.

I suppose you know all the rules and guidelines...

also, please note that at the moment, noone plays chaos... simply because chaos has been taken offline in order to be reprogrammed...
it should go back online by the start of april or so...

anyways, mods have been warned recently... so it isnt double standards...

Well I was trying to help with finding what is okay and what is not.
You can ask smoosh or Jason too what they think. I just tried to give a guildeline. But as you see its not a rule yet, as my word isnt rule at all.

About admins:
There was a time when Jason wanted a non playing forum admin. Later he told me its not mandatory now. But I dont think he has a problem with me not playing anymore. On top of that I dont think I'm biased towards or against anyone here. So not playing is not a bad point here.

I had my errors before...
I thought if I quit the game I can admin the forums better, without any bias took from ingame. And I think I reached my goal.
I dont remember anyone having problem with me except a very few ppl.

On to of that Im always open to solutions, as many ppl could tell...
But having a discussion over this dear Geisha, is fine. And hearing the other side can help everyone to become better, if he/she can take the criticism well. Its a good test for me too.
