if time travel was an option I'd go back to just before the eruption of Vesuvius (maybe around an hour or so before) and take as many scrolls as I could. that would fetch a pretty penny from historians and archaeologists in our time.

I also think it would be entertaining to observe ancient battles, such as Thermopyle(sp?), Marathon, Platea, and the campaigns of Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and so many others.

If we're talking about going back in time....

I'd love to walk around Ancient Rome in the time of the Roman Rule. I'd have to be invisible though, because I don't think I would slip through unnoticed with the modern clothes we wear today. I can't see anyone buying my time travel strory so I will probabaly be killed for beinga spy. Fed to some lion. Who knows.
But from what I could see last year in Rome, it would have been an incredibly beautiful and extravagant place to be. White marble everywhere.
