How does your suggestion work with armysize owning planets? Can we have some formulas and examples?
example, the size limit could be 50 mil, mercs not included. at 50 mil you get a warning...the warning states that for each 1 mil you grow above 1 mil you lose 1 planet at random. this is so A) you dont lose them all at once B) you can adjust to having an account without planets. so at 51 mil if you have 10 planets, you lose one at random with a scripted event of some sort. so by 60,000,001 you have no more planets. this is a rough idea and the numbers given are merely examples, not proposed number to be used. the actual number could be and perhaps should be agreed upon the players in a poll in game as not everyone goes to the forums but all players do go to the game server!
IF you set up your account and run it properly, it should be well balanced and once you hit 60 mil you have no planets and are on your own. a good CO and alliance by this point should have helped you learn how to run your account. so you should not need help growing at this point. you should be able to raid and trade your way to the top. it requires work.

even if bigger players buy from smaller players they only have their own raw income to use, not planets, this means they must farm more BUT, because planets help the smaller guys with defense, strike, income, UP and covert...there is a chance they could run into someone who could give them an actual fight over the farming. so with purchasing, bigger players are still limited even with farming.
also perhaps raiding limits should be reviewed in this! without planets, bigger players might be able to raid again, or at least raising the cap some.
the plague should be reworked so bigger players over a certain size arent punished or not punished as much for being rather large, without planets to help them they should be reward for natural growth and work. i suspect having no planets plus many liking a good fight, it might keep them under the plague limit anyway (i forgot what when the plague kicks in so please excuse my ignorance on this pert)
i also propose this as bigger players already know the ins and outs of the game, they know how to run their account, they know how to mass, ac farm raid...etc. so why should they have planets to give them an even bigger income or strike? my idea at the least only requires that big players play on their own merits skills and knowledge, not what planets give them but what they give themselves. truly this would become a survival of the fittest. those who can make do will and those who cannot will wither on the vine as it were. yes i know a lot of people have put a lot of time and resources into their planets. but planets can also be stolen, so putting your eggs into one basket is one's own fault and you run the risk of losing your investment anyway.
i also feel this may limit the outside the market cash trades, while i have nothing against them this might stem the tide of people who seem to own accounts just to sell resources for money. it could also help reduce scams as a result. no guarantees on any of this though. im sure some will just find a way around it but they do so at the risk of reducing their account size, if they can without having to do lifer suicide attacks, which redues their income and army size and ultimately their ability to "run with the big dogs". at least then those who only play to sell for cash will be more obvious and other players may do with them as they see fit (educators anyone?)
the last thing i can think of right now is people over the limit being able to steal planets from smaller people yes but they are automatically abandon, the player over the limit doesnt have an option in the matter. it is abandoned or destroyed. because of this the number of planets a person can lose in a day should be looked at and maybe changed.
this idea of mine would require looking at and reworking many other things in the game that in the past people have complained about, raiding limits, plague, etc. i think this could help to tweak those things and make them less harsh on players.
i only suggest this to bring a balance between the huge and small. i want this to help small players while at the same time, lift some of the burdens of the bigger players so they too can benefit from such an "update" if it was ever put into place. that way its a win win for everyone but in different ways.
