yeah.
but maybe he also gets the satisfaction that he has help to keep the game running

because i highly doubt jason would continue if no1 supported the site, and he had to pay for the hosting out of his own pocket

Except, it had absolutely nothing to do with what I said. :?

I don't really think he is talking specifically about buying friends, although it may look that way. To examine the quote:
Applying that to SGW yes I have a lot of $ invested in my account-Alright, yes, he has spent a fair bit of money
, but again I have those hours of my time invested.-Meaning money is not his only investment, time is aswell.
For that price I have a host of new friends, memories of good conversation, and a feeling of belonging to a vast community of peers.- Meaning that money has helped him enjoy the game, and spend more time on it, and through that he has made new friends and met up with the community.

Or maybe I am just looking to much into it, but I doubt he is saying that he buying friendship..lol

And to an extent, I can make sense of people spending money on this game. If it helps them to enjoy themsleves, more power to them. It is a harmless activity for the most part, meaning it is much better than many other things they could be spending money on to entertain themselves..

Re: Money into the game

It was more aimed at some of the anti money spending sentiment throughout the thread and in general, a feeling I once shared. It wasn't aimed at you specifically though. Sorry if it appeared that way.

Re: Money into the game

lol...there are lamers out there that have spend over 5k $$ on this game and there are ppl who made 10k+ $$ off this game..i prefer those who madem oney, not those who accually gave money away...for a game that can be shut down any moment...20 $ isn't much maybe..but 2000 $$ for a **Filtered** account is STUPID....God it would be funny if the game was shut down few hrs after someone paid like 2k+ $$ for an account

Re: Money into the game

personally i see nothing wrong with spending money on this game(or any others). as long as people have enough money for their bills, car payments, food, rent, insurances, gasd money, etc...then anything extra is spent on entertainment or just stuck away for the future. people goto movies, buy drugs(legal & illegal kinds), beer, buy useless **Filtered**, go out to eat alot etc...

For me i would rather spend money on a game than go buy legal drugs(i dont smoke), go out to eat every week, or on beer. i ocationally go out & have fun with my friends but rarely drink. i pay all my bills, car payments, car insurance, student loans, medical bills, credit card bills(if i own them), cell phone bill, cable bill, rent, & keep a certain amount of money in my bank for food & gas every month, plus putting a little extra away on top of that every month. at the end of the month if i have any extra money above what i want to keep in my savings & checking i typically give myself anywhere from 50$ to 300$ for my entertainment budge for the next month. i normally buy some anime DVDs, books, stuff i need for cosplay. if i dont got nothing for that month i just put away the money. I am a little bit of anal when it come to manageing my money & i dont want to be in alot of debt by the time i am middle age. good or bad i can thank my mom for drilling this into my head when i was growing up.

I been having a subscription to WoW goin on 3 years now, that is 540$. i get alot of enjoyment out of WoW & i am not tired of it yet. WoW is fun & entertain for me. i slot the subscription to WoW into my entertainment budget.

for SGW after my 1st 3 months here, i bought 4 Supporter Bonuses ($20) & then over a period of 2 months after that i would put down 20-40$ on UU every 2 weeks & by the begining of january 2006 i bought 400k uu(this was way before raiding was put back into the game &* buying 100k uu was alot on money). plus for the 2 months after that i severly cut back on my entertainment budget to make sure i put a little extra money on my bills.

At the time i sloted SGW into my entertainmenty budget. When i was doing this i was cutting back on goin to the movies & going out to eat. I was getting far more entertainment at the time everyday with SGW that poping down 7-10$ just to see a movie, or going out to eat fast food & puting down another 10$ there. since then i havent spent a dime on SGW for over 2 years.

i figured i spent less than 400$ on SGW since i consider SGW much more worth wile entertainment than goin to the movies & spending 7-10$(when i can wait for said movie to hit the dollar theater) or buying an xbox 360 & wasting further money on games i would hardly everplay. i have been playing SGW religiously everyday since i started & i am not tired of it yet.

i made alot of friends & had alot fo fun sofar & i dont see myself quiting SGW anytime in the future either.
Buying DMU with naq & uu.

In response to this... No, I don't feel that I've bought my friends here. I was attempting to draw an analogy between my approach to other interests and my approach to this game. In favor of Jack though I did word that wrong and I can see the grounds for the view he took. My key point here is that everyone has an idea of how they can best contribute to their progress in any endeavor. To re invoke my guitar analogy from the original post. A player gains the most through large amounts of devoted practice, the act of playing the game, but a player can also improve his chances of delivering the best possible performance by investing in his instrument, money into an account making it more valuable and viable for the environment we play in or in Jack's case patient building to reach that status. Slash plays a Les Paul, Clapton a Strat. Those of a professional mind seek a professional tool. Whether that tool is gained through the application of time or the application of money it still yields the better tool. Jack works hard to build his account and I worked hard for the money I spent. We both get our satisfaction from a great game and wonderful people. Even the players we individually don't like contribute to our experience. End point Jack plays a Les Paul that he gave of his time to earn, he's amazing at it because of practice. I play a Strat that I used resources earned from another part of my life to buy, and I play it very well because I practiced at it. We both shred though I have to say I respect Jack's investment more. *turns up gain* 8)
