Re: Nature of This Game

So is it what you are asking ...why dont we war 100% of the time in SGW?

If not...tell me what do you think would happen if some ppl dint have a NAP...after that...tell me do you understand the NAP now?

Also, do you think that an alliance which wars all the time without stop can be the top alliance...?

You could easily have made up an example without naming real alliances. You said it's not about any particular alliance but you decided to use TLE and FUALL.

Do you play this game yourself? and do you have a PEACE relation with anyone in this game?
If the answer is yes... then please explain why you do.
If you do not then I suppose you hit whoever you want even if they are a friend?

To be honest the whole point I used them as an example is due to the large scale that they infact had so it could put into perspective what I was trying to argue. I could have just as easily said any alliance with an NAP but it was just the first one that came to mind. Since when arguing a point it is generally a good idea to have some sort of evidence to back it up. Also my hole point of using this is that I am arguing against the way stargatewars is being used to justify people actions so perhaps I wasn't making myself clear in the first post.

Though to answer the second part I don't have any peace treaties ingame and I do hit who ever I find. Which if you use stargatewars in the way most people seem to project it is how you would need to play the game to use it how they do.

I was rather hoping that it could just be an open discussion about this and people on both sides of the issue would present some sort of argument of why they believe it either should or shouldn't be done. I personally enjoy debating issues in real life and so decided to try on here.

i think Clarkey just wanted to make sure you had "Judged" yourself before passing judgment on the "WHOLE" server...

it looks like you have and i understand what your trying to say in your first post, but much of what goes on both ingame and on forum is merely someones point of view and how they chose to express that point of view is entirely up to each individual, including how they "CHOOSE" to play the game or run their alliance affairs.

naps like treaties are a means to an end, nothing more nothing less...IMHO of course

P.S.

Severian's excellent post just made me wanna go back to school :?

Re: Nature of This Game

NAPs are necessary so that when war breaks out, its all the more spectacular :P

I just love how everyone is arguing over the technicalities of whether such and such alliance should be included. Just go on msn and decide already....takes 5mins

SV makes a very good point and a point in case would be "Squall", you guys remember squall?

and for those that don't remember him, squall bought "brother crits" account (a very powerful account at the time squall bought it) and went on a mass happy war spree,so much so that he ran the account into the ground as well as upsetting 2/3rds of the forum members, me included.

squall massed me a total of 3 times and peed me off so much that i bought (with AK's help) rank 1 anti covert just for him.

because squall waged war so much, brother crits once proud and powerful account looked like a typhoon had gone threw it and took up permanent residence in the account lol.

so peace (and naps) has its place just as war does :)

@Severian
That is an impressive argument though what I would like to ask as you pointed out that having an NAP and building up your resources was a tactical use in war. So then why is it that people that choose to play their whole game in this way by building up their stock pill of resources are shunned and it is thrown around and in their face that they should be attacking people do to the fact that the game is called stargatewars.

Just for clarification this is what I am talking about note stargatewars/peace generally are referring to the same concept of how they believe the game should be played. This is just a few I found quickly with the search Stargatepeace.

Note I am not trying to tell anyone how to play or anything of that sort I am simply arguing the use of stargatewars.

An interesting point though from the way a lot of people use the term stargatewars squall's way of playing his account would be the way they seem to intend it's use. Some seem to portray that stargatewars is "suppose" to be about massing people stealing their naq and what not. If you choose to not play it in this way the game should be called stargatewars peace.

But I'm sure squall had more fun doing that than most people will ever get out of this game ;)

like i said earlier...its all about POV..

the problem is, when we sit back and play our PS or xbox or what not we can deal with losing because we understand that an xbox cannot justify its actions because its preprogrammed to do what its doing, after all we asked it to do it by putting the disc in the slot in the first place...

here however, when someone like the educators comes along and decides he doesn't like your stats (for whatever reason) or is simply bored he takes action, action to which we have no control over, and because we know its a person on the other end we decide we have the right to moan, and ask questions, questions like...what the hell is wrong with you???

to which people will reply "last time i looked this was a war game", for the inherent stat builder this is beyond his comprehension...hence things are taken on a personal level.

i admit (with shame) that i have taken things way to far both ingame and on the forums and some of the language i have used has not been nice at all, but i like to think i have learned my lesson and have grown and improved as a person.

there is no simple answer to this.

That is why I enjoy debates it is not necessarily to try and come up with a universal answer but to have both sides of the issue discussed and good arguments for both cases presented. This is one of the reasons I made this topic I have noticed that over the years this forum has degraded from where it began. Issues use to be debates over all the time. Though now it seems like the forum has lost what it once was and the spammers have moved in instead of having good discussions over an issue.

sadly this is very true but there are many reasons for this the easiest to explain would be many of the more...shall we say "colorful" characters who used to play the game have moved on, people like Su and Esker to name just 2.

Re: Nature of This Game

Many people read into the title of the game too much.

many titles are built on marketing wat would attract more players thus more cash wars or peace?

The great thing about any game is it is filled with many different kinds of players just like life, if the game was filled with only one kind of player the true masser and warmongerer then the game wouldnt be that much fun would it, it wouldnt go anywhere. Just like life people choose the way they do stuff its called being Free, and with that comes the choose on ones future. Many people and alliances choose naps for the sole reason of free will i mean it this way cos if the game was full of warmongerers then that would be the only way u can play it get massed and be massed all the time, but with free will u can supirse someone and being clever in ones actions.

i will also just say this if the game was just for wars like the title suggests then wat is the point of UP and incomes? they are there to grow if war was a constant then why would we need them.
Also everything that is possible in this game is apart of the game that includes setting relations to either peace or war, thus peace is apart of this game, that is why wen u read too much in the meaning of one word in the title of the game, u are ignoring the other aspects (the more important ones) that admin has put in this game to make it available to all of the possible players that can play

Good for him. I'll bet he had an absolute blast playing the game. I would have gotten a huge kick out of reading the incensed PMs I was receiving constantly.

There isn't much fun in sitting around watching stats climb. In the scenario you just mentioned, you call the account "proud and powerful" and yet I'll bet you can't remember the account stats. However, you *do* remember the player that played it. Tell you something? ;)

Personally, I don't like NAPs, unless they are in a hammock on a quiet Sunday afternoon when the air temperature is just right and the insects are bothering someone else.

if i remember rightly the account had covert and anti covert level 25/25.

and yes i agree, good for him...tho many (me included) didn't appreciate the random massings at the time lol
