DarkDust from TA, when we 1 on 1'd, near the end he told me he expected me to come on MSN and completely trash talk him, insult and say whatever and everything in the dictionary to him. That's not what happened. Ingame personalities clashed, MSN was friendly conversations.

That's how it should be.

Use webcam audio talk and do some alliance policies and growth plans speech to invited fellow members of your alliance to prove the one on webcam is you and ask them some difficult things from game and your past game history to prove that it couldn't be someone else you "hired" from real life to take your place and try to prove false things?
That is undoubtfully undiscussable proof!

I really dont have an ingame personality, ingame is like what i am in rl, so i get along with every1 really, ive never insulted any1 personally. although i find it quite disturbing when ppl insult ppl personally over a game. especially in a game like this, because it could be a 25 or 30 year old insulting a 13-14 year old. its just not a good thing, sometimes i think every1 just needs to calm down.

I have been RPing online since 97 & i if i really get into the mood i do the IC(in character) & OOC(Out Of Character) before i 'talk'/type online so there is no chance someone can mistake my various RP personas i used on the net for the RL me. I havent seen IC & OOC used much for SGW, but almost everywhere else it is heavly used.

my SGW persona & the RL me are somewhat similar but in RL i am more of a smartass.

Roleplaying these days is just a conveniant excuse for your inadequacies... A trump card ppl pull when someone puts to them that they`re (being) a-holes....

"I don`t have sadistic and criminal tendencies in RL, I just roleplay when I extort goods form newbs and destroy their accounts for kicks and education"... "I`m not a mean & tempered egomaniac in RL, I`m just roleplaying when I AW and insult people"... "I`m not really racist/sexist/xenophobic when I make inappropriate comments on these boards, I`m roleplaying".... "I`m not petulant or a brat, I`m just roleplaying" etc. etc.


You`re only lying to yourself ppl. The persona you are in RL and the one you allegedly "roleplay" are fundamentaly intertwined and unseperable (in a sence that you cant completley detatch). If you`re a total tosser ingame an on the boards there is a pritty good chance youre one in RL too... Hiding behind avatars and "roleplaying" just tends to bring out the personality traits you`re to yellow to display in RL cos of the fear of consequences, but they`re still there and it`s still you. As much as you yourself would hate to admit it t yourself or others wish not to atribute it to you cos you`re friends. Thats why its allways "I`m not like that in RL" and "you gotta understand him, he was just roleplaying" when **Filtered** hits the fan lol... denial is a very funny thing.

Well said and I mostly agree with all your points.

Growing up, our family (all 7 of us) would sit around the dining room table nearly every night and banter during dinner. We'd exchange playful insults, tell funny stories, debate issues and the like. No one ever got their feelings hurt or felt insulted. We just enjoyed the challenge of getting a good one in on each other or making an immutable point.

Many times during these debates, I'd pick a side in an issue that conflicted with my own personal feelings. Sometimes, this was a formal exercise in debate, the rules and topic picked by my mother. Often, I was just trying to get them riled up because I knew they felt strongly about a subject. In any case, the result was that I gained an appreciation for some viewpoints that were in diametric opposition to my own and, ultimately, great debating skills that carried over into high school, college, and beyond.

I still find myself doing these same kinds of exercises today and admittedly, for many of the same reasons. I've done it to my wife, kids, coworkers, and carried into my online persona.

For example, I've harassed Apop a few times about being French. In truth, I don't have strong feelings about France either way. I've just picked at him because he's shown himself to be sensitive about it and I find that amusing. I've done the same thing to Geisha about being German and I've talked smack to a few online friends in SGW about where they happen to live in the USA. So, while someone might view my comments as xenophobic, they are not truly representative of who I am in real life.

So, am I a tosser because I'm a xenophobe? Actually, not really. A tosser because I like to wind people up for the sadistic pleasure of watching their emotional reaction? Or perhaps a tosser for trading insults in the name of banter? Guilty as charged.

But, to your point, a tosser in real life nonetheless.

So your saying Actors who Role play because thats their job dont thats their real person who they are what they are??

Damn man i have a few actors i should talk to them.

No Roleplay is what it is. But yes some hide behind it to hide thats its their RL issue and who they really are but not all there i disagrea.

Because Role Play is the same to be a small Actor you just only do it well here not on the big screen.

But no m8 Role Play is a another persona.

I`m talking about SGW roleplaying.

And you cant really compare this roleplaying here to "roleplaying" actors do... I put it in "" cos in essence that is very little of them roleplaying imho... sure they "get into" a charachter, but that is a role defined for them in advance. The best know how to add a bit of themselves into it and that is what makes them great as oposed to just sterile performances but they get a somewhat limited manouvering space. Heck, it`s essencially a profession.

Here noone directs or scripts your roleplay for you... you create an avatar as you see fit because you see fit. And if you create one that is unpleasant rude etc. etc. willfully, unasked to and uninfluenced on how to, surely that is a testiment partially to your own nature, is it not?

And my point was more in the lines that people around here do preciouss little roleplaying. Up to the point some1 takes an issue with something done that is... after that it`s all alter egos messing around and RPG. Cos the only thing ppl hate more than finding something bad about themselves is others finding it out lol. Sweep all the dirty things under the RPG carpet community.
