We'd be forcing them to spend more time between ascensions, making them plan out more, and trying to learn the game mechanics alot more. Really way out their options. The amount of people who have -no- idea about their accounts is truly astonishing. I've seen more then one ascended account who think assassins are used to stop people from spying them.
I think if you increased the cost, making it longer / harder for people to ascend, they'd be alot more ready, and -less- likely to quit, once they've put forth some effort.

While I totally agree with you, especially on ascended noobs, I dont think it will change anything. Other people will still help them ascend in the fastest manner possible and if they didn't seek out knowledge before, then they wont after.
I think your idea is more what it should have been, but still fill its a bad move presently unless many other things are dealt with as well.
