Ahh...tuche Bill for the opening salvo, but no less, the idea of respect is given in different ways and I dont think you do credit by asking people to send meaningless pixels to people who risk their lives. I myself would never do such a thing, I dont respect a soldier or any man for what they do, I respect them for the calibre of the character I see. Yes you can say being in the army shows that, I on the other hand would beg to differ. I have met many a man in the armed forces who do not deserve respect, that foul skunk Tok'ra being one of them.

How very true. Especially comming from someone who demands their opinion to be taken as the be all and end of of fact and that all others who say otherwise are ignorant or indoctrinated with lies.

You say they cannot see your context but you yourself refuse to yeild any ground or expand your own context to encompass the points they bring up and are affected by that terrible affliction of the opinion we like to call tunnel vision.

Now I can agree with the concept you are bringing up as it is one of my personal fields of study in that the subjective and selective nature of history has been and will always be used for political and cultural purposes. However that is not to devalue them in anyway as they are important for promoting positive values. You are told fables as a child, nursary rhymes and eventually full blown stories, all of which share the common trait of being a delivery agent for a given moral or agenda. The same goes with historical "fact" but I do not doubt their importance nor deny the heroic actions that these men did commit in the name of an ideal we all believe in to this very day.

So yes, America has done some questionable things but likewise I can find selective examples of other countries doing the same. But again on the flip side, I can find examples of all the good things it has done and the positive and proactive ripples it has caused so while you accuse them of being selective, your own case study was as well. As such, you are guilty of the thing you accuse them of.

I myself could say that the driving force behind Australian Federation was for the creation of a unified front to keep out and contain foreign Chinese immigrants. Would I be correct? Somewhat in that it was a factor considered. However I did not show the context it was in, nor the other far more numerous positive examples and far more noble reasons of which are celebrated today.

It is easy to blackmark a country if you use a very limited scope. But in doing so and with that small tunnel vision, you are blind to an illusion of knowledge which is woefully out of context and as such an entirely inaccurate depiction.

I have brought up this argument before in Regards to the use of a historical crux to prove a point and is as follows (thread: viewtopic.php?p=1350212#p1350212):

It is important to note that the actions committed that made history are objective while the action of recording is always subjective - whether through political agenda or simply not having the information to properly understand in detail the circumstances that lead up to that action. In other words, I will write already with a set purpose in mind or I will write with only my understanding/perspective in mind [and select Primary and Secondary sources that back my argument up]. Truth is an almost impossible thing to capture, built up upon differing perspectives to create something that only partially resembles it. This then applies to the way History is taught but more importantly, used as examples to justify current actions or statements.

The issue a lot of people don't like to approach is that History is a very Subjective and useful tool to cultivate the population to grow into certain ideas and adopt certain perspectives. I'd like to note that I’m not saying that this is wrong and we shouldn't remember or honour things in times past, but merely that we keep an open mind to the wider context of the things we are taught, especially seeing the frame used to teach a specifically select series of events and why those boundaries are placed. In this case, why the poster used those particular events to justify and give substance to his argument and set it out as an absolute in order to promote his take on what is going on.

The point is:

Things always happen. Said things are usually recorded. However, when to promote one thing or another and at which angle too publically approach said things is a very interesting and rewarding field to study.

This is of course all building up and setting the argument of historical "proofs" in context.

The use of promoting History and the neglect or omission of History is an important political tool (and while it is certainly not the only use of History, it is one of the more prominent ones used today). What is taught and what is not is carefully selected by those with influence as with what light to portray certain events and as such the general knowledge of a given people can easily reflect a given country’s political (not necessarily ruling) elite and their agendas.

History is vast enough to be used as justification for almost anything. It can very easily show and be used for conflicting arguments. One side will pick a particular event that supports his view while his opponent can just as easily point out different examples which promote his and debunk the original.

In this case we have Sweeds and their actions in world war two. But I could just as easily pull out any event from any given people from any given political standing in any given era which could just as easily show the complete opposite.

Does this make my view correct? No. But by using history to pass your ideas off as truth is a very fickle thing to do and should not be so easily assumed as so. Your argument is the substance and history can be used to show past examples to support your ideas but history can never really be the crux and sole argument because it is simply too vast and conflicting but more importantly, a subjective thing trying to be applied to a subjective argument which is being passed off as objective fact.

So all those who shoot down others arguments and demand that they be seen as right because they use real world examples should be more careful in tossing events around. You are free to use History to support an argument but to say History is linear/black & white and shows absolutes that prove your view is the be all and end all is a tad too much of simplification.

I am guilty of using history or historical terms myself, but they are merely used to support something that I present as a viewpoint without being the argument in itself.

That and this is a wargame that deals in abstracted ideas and concepts which are not comparative to the real world so while we bring the world with us intentionally or indirectly, they are not the same.

Ok now as of May 2008 America has released a RFID chip in every state ID and Driver's License in America, only a few stats have acually refused to do this. This herre is the protype to the IMPLANTABLE RFID chip which will be required by your goverment once it is complete. Whats this RFID you say?? Lets just say its a tool for the goverment to monitor everything a person does. And for what purpose? To have complete and dominate control of what you can do..all they need to do at that point is turn off your RFID chip and poof you dont exsist. You lack the ability to purchase anything and therefore have nothing.

Now another topic, did you all know it doesnt matter who you vote on, because the goverment has final say. How you ask? easy, there is a program created by man that can secretly fix elections. basically this program will and does, rig any election it will flip the vote 51% to 49% to anyone selected to win. oh but now you curious how can they get away with this? The only detecable way to know if this program exsist is viewing the source code. And guess what, voting machine manufactures refuse to allow anyone to view their sorce code.

From IEDs to suicide bombers and from tanks blowing up families and nations subdued, occupied & opressed... All wrapped neatly into the packages of fight for "freedome and democracy", "fight for freedome of interevntionism", "collateral damage & a way into heaven" and to top it off, a nice red bow of potent ww2 guilt trip (knowlegable know what I`m aiming at) at the top...

Like I said, don`t have to be religios but even the good book states thou shall not kill. How USA can be so boderline "fanatical" about their religion and on the other hand be such a gun ho culture that values life on par with a 6pack of beers (if it`s not in posession of the right passport that is) is a mystery and a sorce of much amusement to me. If I were an american politician I`d fear to call down the blessing of the "allmighty one" on the US out of fear he might simply smite it down for all the death and destruction cocreated by it heh... But I guess politicians allways were masters of reinterpretations when they`re warranted and deep down agnostics like me...


Bottom line is I will not honour any1 that willfully soils his hands with blood. If he has the gall to say to me he`s doing it all "for me" I`ll punch him sr8 in the face. I don`t want lower oil prices or the elimination of those not sharing my beliefs with a passion for some sence of "security&safety" if it means soaking me in blood. Not in my name.
