There was a topic that happend to be talking about playing style and it got me thinking.
I remeber there was a guy in BWB ( My old feeder alliance ) whos job it was to find a cure for cancer......
It really blew my mind when I found that out. Here I am some jumped up 19 year old kid, who works 2 days a week and then learns abit about Music the other 3 days a week. Its crazy. I was the leader of an Empire when he clearly had the brains to do something great in this world leave alone some silly game.
I just wanted to ask the question, has there been any moments like mine, where you thought damn... that person is clearly a genius, and should be someone or somewhere better in the game.

Re: Something Someone Once said
I spoke to a guy once...
...Went by the name Of ~Phoenix~.
Man did we wind each other up, ALL the time, but my god was that kid bright, i mean seriously, he was on anouther level, could probally do anything he wanted too if he applied himself.
Real stand out moment?
Nah, But a reality check,
I dont think anything is going to beat the guy cureing cancer...
...Although Bill leaveing to go to iraq i felt was a big eye opener, i know other people had gone from the game and have since, but noone i actually new, that was quite a blow to me, thinking someone whos memory i had in my head could be dead, that id never met, but knew quite well, someone whow as a decent upstanding guy.

Yeah Bill going there did make me think about stuff alot.
I didnt have that much contact with ~Phoenix~ ( Phoenix as in Gala ? )
Gala was abit of a early hero of mine, he talked to me alot at the start of the game and told me alot.

When I was alliance mates with a few people in COAA....I just assumed they were about my age for a long time and thought they were pretty bright....I think it was Chat and TT, but then I found out they were like 12 or something....I didn't realise kids had brains

I always felt that goo was pretty smart.
Hmmm, others though i dont' understand how they excelled. It all depends really. I am sure others think that i'm an idiot, when my job field in the military was intelligence.

I remember BWB btw. A whole clan of BW's.

Sometimes some of the mods will try to step on you, or even mod your section. My advice is to fill a sock with marbles and hit them repeatedly until they stop. - Pianomutt2000.urban assault wrote: Bill? Hey, I said I was kidding! Bill, don't push that red button!

I know I've been surprised to find out ages of people on the forums. There are some sharp people skulking about.
Everyone assumes I'm an old guy but in reality, I'm only 14 myself.

~Phoenix~ as in the one who got like 40 mil Uu raided off of and who Memento said was gay.
But yeah I have had moments like that. One where Bill and others went over seas for service. Then there was one guy about 3 years ago (can't remember the name to save my life) who quit because he found a kick butt job that required a lot of time, but where he was making an ass of money. And then there are those people who go to college and stuff and want to quit to stay focused on their studies. Made me think there is more than playing games, going to school, and going to the beach every day.
@ Robin: Yeah, there are some young people running around. And then there are those old people who you could have sworn were really 15 or 16

Nice thread BW.
I have been awe struck a few times from people.
A guy once told me he had went through uni and was now working in a childrens hospital for the terminally ill(I think). I was pretty astonished by that, pretty selfless in my eyes.
Its funny how little most people know about each other and how much we assume.

I dont know if that was a little tip of the hat to me... but I do the very same... If that isnt about me, then it just shows how little we all know about everyones lives.

Re: Something Someone Once said
There have been a few moments of meeting brilliant people, thus realising my own lack thereof.. I like to mention Diamond Dust, Sinister, Severian.. people with great jobs, like Bill and the other servicemen.. and people who excel through general behaviour or, a fav of mine, language command/skills.
Ah well.. I have realised my own stupidity ever so often.. but that was not your question, was it.
I have had those moments you describe.. quite a few times.

Re: Something Someone Once said
I'm kidding. I actually *am* an old guy. Well, not old, per se. Mostly just crusty. I only smell old when I fart. Or shake out my clothes.

I've known a few people in the game well enough to discuss life outside of SGW and have nearly always been impressed by many of the jobs they do in real life. Even for those folks playing SGW who are college age, many are in education paths that are interesting and diverse. I think it's easy to forget that behind the pseudonym is a real person with a life, goals, hobbies, and interests.
I love teh internetz.
