I'll leave you with a PM Bill sent me when he massed my officer and i told him i would return the favour.

Re: So when did it become ok to mass officers in war?

Tetris,

When I goto war, I always send a msg to my officers letting them know that they will be the likely target of my enemies.

In today's game, getting rid of your enemies officers could reduce their up growth by half. Their up bonus that is.

They contribute resources, I have nothing against them personally. Usually, I warn them to go away and find a new CO for the duration of the war.

I've seen both sides do it, i've seen all sides do it since Arch Angel's were still in-game.

I have one officer who plans on leaving for the duration of the war, this will be a success of my enemies, and hurt me UP wise for the war. I don't hold it against him, as it isn't his war.

The rest, are sticking it through with me...Good on em...

Sometimes some of the mods will try to step on you, or even mod your section. My advice is to fill a sock with marbles and hit them repeatedly until they stop. - Pianomutt2000.

Re: So when did it become ok to mass officers in war?

I think officers are bound to become targets because they're funding the war effort, abeit indirectly, through their relationships with their commanders. People from both sides have talked about doing it, although I'm unsure if any action has been taken yet.

Personally, if I want to hit someone's officers, I'll send them a PM with 48 hours notice informing them that they're likely to become a target if they remain affiliated with an enemy alliance. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Absolutely true. I would expect nothing less :)

Officer provide UP bonus, CO's provide naq and protection.

Re: So when did it become ok to mass officers in war?

If you are participating in the war you know you will mass and get massed but some officers are starting to play and learn (like my officers) and now they get dragged in to something that they just cant survive.

To dragg them in the war is just not right.
Oh and the resources they provide are meaningless whit so much better farms around.

It's not about their resources, though, but rather the resources they're providing for their commanders.

It's not a nice situation, admittedly, but the best thing you can do if you don't want your officers at risk is to either explain the situation and dismiss them, or at least give them a fair warning of what to expect.

It's not about the amount of the resources they provide you, but maybe by massing them and getting them leave you it would increase your naq production making you a better farm as well. I sent a note to my officers who could never stand up in a war like this. Some left, some went to Perg and some haven't left. They haven't been massed yet (mainly because I don't mass other people officers unless they are in the war), I think Mordock's note of warning is the best idea because if they leave it saves you the ATs and hassle of massing them to convince them to leave. And if they don't leave...well they were warned.

It has NEVER become ok! It is against the rules! Write a letter to the admin and have him ban the perpetrators! That tactic is horrible!

Yes, warning and dismissal is an option but i think we are missing Tetris point.

Is it a fair tactic? Is it honorable?

Maybe its a fair war tactic but not honorable.
I may end up doing this cause it was done to me... but i wouldnt start it.

My two cents.

I do not condone hitting officers who are not in our war of the enemy and will not do so... unless officers of my allies are hit.

Re: So when did it become ok to mass officers in war?

After the initial strikes, after the big and medium defenses have fallen, after the strategic planets have been liberated, and after the "war" has turned into nothing more than a turn-farm fest, expect officers to become involved.

Don't want officers involved? Keep your own stats built so as to provide a target and hedge against boredom and don't get involved in a war that is likely to last until sheer frustration sets in.

I'm anxious to see Admin's new alliance war system. The current war system is hopelessly broken and pointless.

Exactly. I always warn them, and try my best to offer advice. Many of my officers will gain experience from my wars.

Others will learn how to hide, and some will move onto new CO's. Usually, I will find a neutral one to help them.

Is it honorable to not warn them of impending war? In war, allies are targets....officers are in your chain of command, either of them are targets....they are either in the war, by being your officers...Or allies...which are fair game.

Re: So when did it become ok to mass officers in war?

One potential added bonus of massing officers:

Many commanders will give UU and naq to officers to help them rebuild which diverts those resources away from the war effort.
