I vote no
Having a community like this moderate itself with its peers is a challenge for both moderators and users. There will undoubtedly be ties, tensions and differences.
As moderators cycle through with there own styles and personalities it is up to us as a community, including the mods to reach beyond any personal boundaries, challenge ourself to learn and to accept , and to communicate at a higher level as we all obviously cherish this aspect of the game.
As we police ourselves we must retain and respect the nature of this forum and its users and make this a safe and enjoyable environment for veterans, new comers, mods and future mods alike.

Re: do we need an overhaul of the mods?
This time period has been particularly challenging. I voted no, because I don't feel that there is an issue really. People just need to grow up, act like adults, and understand that the mods are doing their best.
Just because they are a mod, doesn't mean that they aren't human as well. Once you understand that, you won't have much of a problem.

Sometimes some of the mods will try to step on you, or even mod your section. My advice is to fill a sock with marbles and hit them repeatedly until they stop. - Pianomutt2000.urban assault wrote: Bill? Hey, I said I was kidding! Bill, don't push that red button!

Re: do we need an overhaul of the mods?
I said some.
But i would also say a mod is not always populare and if you go by who never breaks the rules then i think you find very few mods or users alike who never recieved a warning in their life here.
But most of the mods we have is good and honest mods who does a great job but you never can please all.

Re: do we need an overhaul of the mods?
The mods are biased towards their alliances and their relations with other alliances. They warn certain people for doing stuff, but when they go back and do that same thing and get called out on it they say, oh, I can do that.
The mods are crap.
The mods are crap.

Re: do we need an overhaul of the mods?
I believe the entire moderating system at current is a farse. Some, I can allow can do the job right, but too many are inexperienced/power mad, too biased, or far too narrow minded.
I have always stood by the mods, as I have been able to sympathise with them on many an occasion.
This isnt about people growing up and everything a long those lines, when this forum was new and the mods were who they were, there were no problems, not to this scale and I agree that the community and mod team have changed, but something is obviously wrong. The community is too large, to characterised, and to occupied with other issues to be demanded to change ir ever approached to do so, I mean come on. A community of some 3000+ forum users compared to 20-40 mods hanging around now.
Yes wonderful Ombudsman propoganda speech. On the other hand though, stating the obvious, fair enough i can see how it appears many of us have forgotten such. Never the less, We have accepted. For many many months, weeks whatever you want to say many forum users have quite quietly sat in silence or only whispering about the inadequcies of the modding team, trying to respect and adapt as you so generously propose we do. Shock horror, it hasnt worked. I have increasingly seen the shade of grey that used to exist be ignored or bleached, tot he point where during this very busy war time, the mods have gone too far and have made just too many mistakes, handed out too many warnings for trivial and meaningless things, and this cannot be ignored. As you rightly stated so many of us cherish this aspect of the game, and that shade of grey is everything, its the line the peace between the mods and the community.
I suggest many more of you click the link in my sig.

Re: do we need an overhaul of the mods?
Semper is right on the money, just a couple days ago i received a warning from a mod because of something my brother wrote on the board while i was away from the computer i immediately edited it out and apologized within 5 minutes of it being posted. But the god... i mean mod thought it fit to issue me a warning and not even discuss it with me or accept my apology.

Re: do we need an overhaul of the mods?
The biggest problem as of late is non-native english speaking mods issuing warnings on the proper uses of the english language and their interpretation of it. That is what needs to be addressed, not firing the entire team.

Re: do we need an overhaul of the mods?
LoL strangely enough I have a feeling of déjà vu...
I can bet 100bil naq that IF the mod team is changed (partially or totally), in LESS than 6 monthes there will be this kind of opinion.
So think about it. I hear many times, "oh I miss when it was mr x or mrs y who were mods", but well, remember, back in those days, weren't they meant to be in opinions as bad as the current we have now?
I remember few monthes ago some comments saying "cool this mod team is really better than the last one, good job mods, you are really doing well". And now this. As I said, I am totally sure IF we change many will say "oh it's better team than last one", then, few monthes later...all over the same again!

Re: do we need an overhaul of the mods?
This is stated so many times allready that it becomes a standard reply. The mods in the forums can never please everybody. There is always someone who has something to complain. When its pointed out that their complaint only exists on their screen and not in the community of sgw they try to get a "victory" the other way. This is not aimed at people in perticular it is just human nature.
The mods offer up their free time in sgw to mod these forums and i keep saying we have a good mod team. The team acctually most of the times works as a team and fiasco's we had before (yes mine included) havent happened anymore. The rules are clear but sometimes someone who isnt a native english speaker misunderstands them (i have made this mistake a couple of times). In general the mods do a great job. Where reports are reported actions are made and by the most feedback given on it.
Therefor i will say there is no need to "overhaul" the mod team.

Re: do we need an overhaul of the mods?
TheRook wrote:that statistic was pulled out of my ass
Need native speakers or at least a native speaker having ultimate authority over the use of words. Too many inconsistencies in application of moderation when it comes to language. For example, (sorry to pick on you Rook, just an example) Rook's post includes the word "ass" which is a swear word here in the US. It's not as awful as some others but most parents (including me) wouldn't allow their children to use it.
So, "ass" is permitted but "the-word-which-shall-remain-unspoken" that also refers to the same nether region is filtered, warnable, and bannable. As is another word which includes "the-word-which-shall-remain-unspoken" combined with a single letter but that word is only inappropriate when the character case is typed a certain way.
Sorry, makes no sense to me...
I don't think we need to change out the mod team over it but some select replacements and/or training and guidance is in order.
I voted "some".

I just read this rather brilliant list.. While the list itself isn't suitable for SGW, the principle behind it might be; having a committee compile and maintain a tri-monthly list: "List of Words Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-Use, Over-Use or General Uselessness"
