Do they still make sense nowadays?
Is it worth it to get officers?
i mean i see ppl offering 1.5b/turn to their officers as long as they have a minimum 200-300-400k UP
how does that benefit the officer? how do you make it so that they benefit?
i are confused on the subject. I've pm'd a few ppl asking them how, but I mean unless you give your officer back the extra UP you get I don't see how its profitable?

Re: Officers and CO's?
In sgaw, officers/commanders give no bonus to each others, so it doesn't matter much to me. I stay with my commander not for bonuses, a commander is more than a bonus, isn't it?
Otherwise everyone would be after biggest income commander isn't it?

Re: Officers and CO's?
Yep, that's why this no commander cross realm is annoying, I have to come back to normal realm because of those loose officers (and commander for officers) when you ascend.. <_<
Otherwise I would find myself a commander in perg if it was just for naq...I'm in perg as it is fine because you are never farmed for ridiculous (small) amounts, and especially, can farm for not ridiculous (small) amounts as well!

Re: Officers and CO's?
Officer/Commander to me was always about three things.
A. Nurture
B. Flexibility
C. Economic Partnership
A. Nurture
The first deals mostly with a bygone era in training up people and new members to the game in stargatewars' early days. Most are forced to learn quickly these days but the original purpose of educating and bringing users into the fold, sheparding them until they're proficient (and thus willing to stay in the game) is only a shadow of the importance it once held.
B. Flexibility
Currently the most useful option to date. In return for the officer/commander commitment, you have the constant economic enticement of:
C. Economic Trade off
Finally we have the economic partnership/trade off that for a time was feasible and led to being selective about officers as well as setting up loops. This has been toned down somewhat and no longer as useful or as potent as it once was. The trade-off still exists in a more limited form:
/_/_/_/_/_/_/
Essentially unless you have tailored officers, the only viable physical benefit is the increased flexibility you gain in income control...

- Presence and name of Commander to act as a deterrent.
- Ability to See Officer's stats to ensure they're in the right build and give advise where needed.
- Ability to access attack records and protect/retaliate or deal with any incursions on the officer.
- Ability to send messages to all officers and as such more effective means of communication and or warning.
B. Flexibility
Currently the most useful option to date. In return for the officer/commander commitment, you have the constant economic enticement of:
- Having the ability to further manipulate and control the flow of income with setting officer rates. This helps stack with nox and critical to ensure the period of time away yields the least amount of naq to the enemy as possible and with little build up, increases the chances of not being hit at all (no losses/no repairs/no making it into farming lists)
C. Economic Trade off
Finally we have the economic partnership/trade off that for a time was feasible and led to being selective about officers as well as setting up loops. This has been toned down somewhat and no longer as useful or as potent as it once was. The trade-off still exists in a more limited form:
- Commander focuses on UP bonuses rather than income.
- Officer focus on further income bonuses rather then UP.

I suppose if you wanted the UP bonus, the best way of going about it would be to get 10 officers with a 'mid-range' pre-officer total UP.
Where people keep bringing up these random bonuses, i.e. half of their own UP being contributed to their commander, is beyond me.
As of now, the only three things that have changed are, officers only contribute their 'pre-officer' total UP, killing off UP circles. The amount of bonus UP a commander receives is limited to half of their own raw up, per officer. And the new limit on the amount of officers you may have is 10.
The amount of bonus UP any one single officer can give to their commander is still set a half the income percent. i.e. 15% of your officers 'total' UP when you give them 30% of your income.

Aye, that's true.
Now if that friendship is with a big guy who also happens to give you protection and a decent income bonus, that's even more perfect.
It's why I'm glad with my current CO. He doesn't just go and tell me to blindly increase my UP, but we're actually having some more conversation than that - even though we haven't talked on MSN, ingame PMs worked fine thus far.
