[Forum Suggestion] "Mark for Mods" ability

I was wondering if it might be possible, considering the number of repeat topics around here lately, for someone to allow the option of flagging certain threads, like repeats, for the mods to notice.

Important:
This should only be given to reliable and dependable people on this forum, and no, only one person can flag a thread. Any repeats get tacked on as such. ("X people have seconded this flagging. See the list here.")

What do the mods think of this?

Good idea. I'm quite suprised that isn't a prebuilt function of phpBB2. Most otther software, Invision,SMF,etc all have a 'report to moderator option'.
I suppose there is a phpBB2 mod out there for it tho.

The only downside to it is flooding. You can effectively flood mods. How many people you know, work for free and continue to do so after receiving an inbox full of hate mail

If there is another way though, i would be all for it.. it would make my job easier.

well another option that could help cut down on duplicate posts is creating child forums on the Game suggestion forum. Well that is if PHPBB2 supports child forums.

Have it in this structure:
Game Suggestions >
Troop Suggestions
Weapon Suggestions
Tech/Race Suggestions
Attack Type Suggestions
Other Suggestions

This would at least try to keep stuff in more of an order to make similar topics easier to find.

Any way to make it just cause the thread to appear a different colour to you when you guys browse the forums? That way it'd draw your attention to it but you could leave it 'til you have time without fear of an exploding inbox. Then give the mods the ability to unflag it so other mods don't go checking it out only to find that it's already been dealt with.

If you go back and read my original post, I've already thought of this. That's why I said only reliable people could have the ability.

I also said only one person could set the thread as "flagged," but multiple people could second the flagging (or third it, or forth it, ...). (I don't know if you should be able to see what others have flagged or not. It's probably arguable both ways.)

Not quite how I'd've put it, but somewhat true. These would be "flaggers," not mods of any sort.

well if that was to actually be done, It would probably be a lot easier to switch forum software to something with a similar type of system in place.It then becomes a lot easier to modify that system to grant only a few people access to it. Simple Machines Forum would be the best canidate. Just throwing the idea out there. lol

Actually, it'd be nice to integrate the forum and the game, but that's not too like anytime soon.

Well PHPBB2 isn't exacltly that easy to mod. I used to use it. Its much better to use something with the base already in place.

However, we'd be talking about removing the entire forum, obliterating all the posts.

haha quite the opposite. Conversion. SMF has a nice little DB converter.It will convert the PHPBB2 tables into its own format keeping all posts and boards and settings. I wouldn't suggest something that wiped it all out.
