1. You are kind of expected to be loyal to your alliance untill the conflict is trhough

2. If for some reason you dont see in that alliance what you once saw and want to get out, while clearly you have been part of the group which is in conflict with another group, isnt it nice to give them some kind of indemnity for all you have done to them, for reasurance you mean it when leaving...

3. Can the Romans please punish the barbarians for their barbaric invasions...

FUALL and TJP are bad people, problem is 99% of the power within this game lies between those 2 empires. Difference is if you leave the war from FUALL, TJP want you to weaken your account by a fraction as a sign of trust that you will play no further part in this war. FUALL on the other hand want you to leave your alliance forever so basically if they are successfull the alliance will have nobody left, this would mean ratehr than having 99% of the power in the game between 2 empires that 99% would be within there empire. TJP are happy to live with FUALL, due to being the lesser power until the first server war we are used to being defenceless etc... FUALL are not happy to live with TJP as they are used to being the strongest and having big defences(or in some cases 0 defence) to hide there income and increase teh gap between themselves and the rest of the community.

So yeah from what I can see paying a small sum of naq is a much better sacrifice for yourself and for the game in general.

I take it thats a hit at me but clearly I've missed something. Care to explain? If not then my bad I misunderstood.

But no I wouldn't like somebody to leave without a reason but if the reason became void I would still like the person to have the option of rejoining, only losing a couple of days income in the process, rather than being unable to join irregardless of what happens.

well maybe its just me and my high degree of honor and am wrong to think others would honor their word when they say they will do something they will actually do it...such as saying they will quit a war and mean it.

CIA had that opinion in the last server war but virtually every member leaving CoP to join DUNE done it for the sole reason to fund from the outisde or to rebuild before joining the fight again.

Hence why the tributes are in place now.

You missed the point completely there - people suggested it as in-game addition because they wanted it as a 'fairer' method than just letting alliances make them up themselves (and to give wars more meaning). So the fact that Jason didn't do it went against what people wanted.

You didn't really answer the question......

I asked why it wasn't in the spirit of the game, and I think I gave pretty good reasons why it is in the spirit of war - winners/losers, to the victor go the spoils etc and that it tends to be the kind of thing that happens in a war - conditions are put on the defeated army. To me that means that it is exactly in the spirit of the game - the game being a war game.

Your response was to say that it isn't in the spirit of the game because 'it isn't real life' (so? it's an RPG - people can play a role as they see fit) and that 'asking for resources so someone can quit a make believe war is just wrong'. Why is it 'just wrong'?

Take for instance a situation where alliance A declares war on alliance B and B is massed before they can do anything. Alliance B retaliate and, working together, start to hit back and hurt some of their aggressors. Alliance A members then either get 'bored' or, more likely, realise they are going to lose and want to 'leave the war'. Why should alliance B let these players, who declared the war and caused trillions of naq and millions of UU worth of damage to their accounts, leave and walk away from the war freely, without getting any retaliation or paying for the damage they caused?

You have to remember that tributes/reparations became more popular, if you like, because what was happening was as soon as a war started, people 'left' their alliances because they didn't want to fight, or didn't want their account damaged - well that's all part of being in an alliance and, I'm going to say it again, being in a war game. Then what would happen was as soon as the war was over, those people would 'rejoin' their alliance as if nothing had happened.

I will concede that there are limits - and asking someone to pay something they could not possibly afford is just silly, and little good would come of it if you tried to force it - but I've also known players/alliances put high prices on tributes/reparations (call them what you will) because they don't want people to leave the war.

As for it being the first time you've ever seen it - it's been going on almost since the game started, as mentioned before, and as reiterated by Brdavs. I can certainly remember instances of it going on as far back as mid to late 2005, and most of the big alliances seem to have done it at some point (although the EPA never did!).

I will also add that I have never, in almost 3 and a half years now of my time in SGW, demanded a tribute or reparations from anyone - so I'm not biased in that respect - I simply can't understand (mainly because people don't/can't explain it) why people moan about it, claiming it is unfair, wrong, immoral or whatever?

Wait wait, are you serious?!? Your kidding me right? this is THE MOST blatant contradiction I think I have ever seen on these boards.

What is it that you think you are doing right now? Your crying about how morally incorrect we are for asking tributes and that you think it's wrong (AKA how morally correct you are). But your not just saying it, your practically yelling it from the rooftops.

I have two pieces of advice for you.

1) THINK before you speak (this is an important one for you)
2) Get the hell over it.
