I know that this could never really work, but I have often thought about how in SG the replicators ...well they replicate. Would it be at all possible to implement this into the game? like giving them huge disadvantages to make up for the superior UP.
I know its more of a thought than anything that could be realistically put into the game, but it bothered me how the race of machines doesn't really handle that differently to the organic races.
any thoughts on this? and please avoid the inevitable "no it wont work"

Re: Replicator Massive UP
if they had massive UP, i'd turn replicator. UP drives the game. A race with a UP advantage is a race better than everyone else.
perhaps a reduction in the naq requirements for upgrading UP to reflect the nature of the replicators. this idea will also allow the game to maintain balance.

Re: Replicator Massive UP
yeah i know...everybody would turn replicator...thats wat im trying to say.
would there be a way to accommodate the way replicators can mass produce without upsetting the balance of the game? lowering the cost of their UP is an idea but doesnt really reflect SG very well...maybe the Tauri have a specialized offensive weapon just for the replicator masses and the Asgard have a specialised defensive weapon etc...
er i dunno

Re: Replicator Massive UP
The Tauri already have a massive attack bonus. Asgard have great defense bonus. Goauld are evenly balanced because they have plenty of slave planets and Replis have great cov/anticov bonus because, well, they can hack into any system. The only thing that would reflect the replicators' propensity for replicating is cheaper UP upgrades. Because their UP is cheaper, they can get more UU faster than any race. But remember the replicators can only use metal.
Now, if you really want to be true to the SGW story line, you can also give the Asgard the same cheaper UP upgrade because they can clone. The Goauld can also have cheaper UP because of slave planets and Tauri can also have cheaper UP because of liberating slave planets and discovering other planets with Tauri races.
All in all, it balances out. No need to tinker with UP of any race.

That would be the way if it was going to happen.
Minor price reduction for UP would be the only way.

Where to start...
Goauld having slave planets wouldnt make them make babies faster. If by trying to say that you are harvesting captured planets into slaves, it sounds like a 1 time bonus to UP.
Tauri are more double edged. Just because you 'liberate' a planet does not mean they will instantly fall in love with you and join your ranks. Again, sounds like a 1 time bonus if they get any at all.
Asgard yea, you can say they clone but at the same time over cloning is what kills them. After (X time)/(clone rate) =~0, auto asgard account deletion?
Cheaper UP upgrades would be nice, but then again I doubt it will ever be put in the game

Re: Replicator Massive UP
which is exactly the point. all races have limited UU. even the replicators. without metal, they don't exist. so, it pretty much evens out. the only difference is the growth rate. Admittedly, Replicators have a higher growth rate. If admin were to implement that here, then the best way to do that would be to make UP upgrades cheaper for replicators so that the game balance isn't shaken up.

Re: Replicator Massive UP
Or they can just leave it as it is beacuse each race has their own means of reproducing qucikly, therefore they don't need to put it in because it won't make much of a difference except everyones UP might go up 2-5%.
