I wouldn't have said it was spam, no, as it's information which relates to the topic. Even if it doesn't "contribute" to the topic, as you say, it still isn't silly/banal/irrelevant enough to warrant the 'spam' label.

I think people's main issue with "spam" in war threads is that it makes them so damn difficult to follow. Some people aren't on the forums constantly, and may only check them once or twice a day to see how the war is going.. and it's a pain for said people to have to wade through pages and pages of "lolcats" and sexual innuendo just to find out the latest news.
