How come i can't train untrained mercs?

subject explains the question, when i go to train i run out of uus and try to train more when i have u-mercs and i get an error because i'm out of uus, if i can't train them what use are they to me?

Untrained mercs are completely usless


unless you concider using them as a bank useful.

In times past they added to your army size, but thats been removed.

They also add APP when ascending, but youd get more APP from the naq they cost you then from the mercs.

Three years now... I doubt Untrained Mercs will ever become useful like they once were(n't).
Way back, you could (in addition to Lore's list) also use them to give your officer some funds w/o SS via transferring them.

Lore's "using them as a bank" is by buying billions of them. Lore, f.x. has over a billion UMs. Or don't you, Lorez0r?!

You still can do that. I'm in perg, and have found a way to help out some of my younger (as in newer to the game) officers with resources.

I once considered buying bils of them for AP, but with the current AP-LF rates it would cost me trils or quads (not going to do the math!) of them to be of any worth. Also, as said, the pure naq is worth more.
