question for my fellow techno literate here...

im looking to get something next weekend, need some logical informed opinion. im either going to buy a new motherboard, a second vid card and another 2 gig of ram, OR an Asus EeePC.

the new motherboard will be an Asus P5K-PRO, 2nd vid card will match my existing XpertVision HD2600PRO 256mb in crossfire, and the extra 2 gig will bump me up to 4 gig total.

the EeePC will be the basic model, in black. dont want white.... dont like mac, dont want white..... lol

anyway, my personal opinion is leaning towards the motherboard and parts, but ive been wanting a lappy for some time now too. the current motherboard has to run my 2 gig in single channel as opposed to the dual because above 667mhz it wont run in dual. (its a gigabyte GA-945GM-S2 fyi.)

opinions here soon please.... need to make up my mind so i can order the stuff.... (heavily leaning towards motherboard and parts)

please note that the 4 gig will be useful to me, i dont use XP much anymore.

dammit keel lol.... yeah, im getting the motherboard etc. however the P5K Pro isnt made anymore (onoz!) so im getting a P5K-EPU motherboard. similar story with the vid card, it isnt made any more so im getting a 16 GB USB drive hopefully if theyre not outta stock.

I would also got for the components, always works out better than buying a complete PC or a laptop and its a good MB...Only thing is eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek at ATI GFX card but thats just me!

well i bought the existing HD2600PRO sonic last year, cos i didnt have the money for another card, and i srsly have not been disappointed. i can play crysis on it in a very respectable framerate at 1024x768.... i think.... cant totally remember if the res was 1024x768 but the framerate was great.

not to mention i use vista now hence the extra 2 gig of ram to bump me to 4 gig.... and b4 ppl get stuck into me, it IS NOT a bad OS. ive been using it for months and its more reliable than my winXP installation .... XP killed itself.

suffice to say i havent tried Crysis in vista as yet, but with DX10 support (which btw helps CoD4 run phenomenally better than it did in XP) i wont be surprised if this setup will knock my proverbial socks off, all down to the iP35 Northbridge chipset.....

the advantage of upgrading is that you can always do further upgrades

changing the motherboard on a laptop is nigh on impossible and will more than likely void any warrenties

Some laptops are easier to take apart then others, and the voided warranty really isn't a big thing if you know what you're doing and take care of it.

update for those interested, got the parts, upgraded, and i am not disappointed. there was an issue where i couldnt install the audio driver but now it all works well.

and also true, if your going to be opening your laptop to fiddle about, you more than likely know what your doing

its just a bigger risk than with a desktop

as well as being more awkward
