Everytime the enemy sabotages or attacks the player, the defence system is damaged, and the number of security personnel you have drops.
The maximum amount of security personnel you can have at any one time is the defence system capacity times 2. If you do not meet this maximum, then the defence system can only work as much as the existing security personnel can handle. If any turrets or cameras are destroyed, security personnel may also be killed.
its tricky, i think there needs to be a UU cost involved, just not sure if the addition of 1 or 2 new trainable units will fly.
idea is shaping up well I think.

Well, we can always have a vote. The choices being having a new trainable, killable unit to operate the defence system, or make the UU killables whenever the player is using the defence system.
I myself go for the new unit, but that's my opinion. Others are always welcome. sniper0432

lol - think I took a bump on the head earlier that day!
Refinements seem better, not too overpowered now - still not totally convinced this is needed or would add anything significant to the game though - but not as dead set against it as I was!

Well then, Wolf359, what would make this idea seem of any use to the game in your opinion? I may be able to incorporate your idea into a working part of this "maybe" future update. At the moment, i don't know anything else that would make the defence system of any use to the game, as all my ideas have run dry. I would really like to know what your thoughts are Wolf359, they would be welcome here (I hope! lol) )
A summary of the defence system if anyone is lost: Note: I may have added some new ideas here.
Artificial Base Defence System Features: Defence turrets Security cameras Power Storage Facility Security Personnel or Killable UU (Still taking votes)
What the defence system does: Special addition to the defence action, and completely takes over defending against covert attacks, allowing covert personnel to focus on spying and sabotaging more, boosting the covert action. The power of the defence system will depend on the amount of security personnel you have (maybe)
Dowsides: 1x defence system capacity paid in narquadah stored inside the Power Storage Facility per turn. Defence system shuts down if there is insufficient narquadah in the Power Storage Facility. Narquadah will never be accessable ever again if placed in the Power Storage Facility, can only be used by the defence system to power it. Can be sabotaged, destroying security cameras or defence turrets, and can even shut down the defence system if enemy covert action is strong enough. Attacks or raids can damage or destroy security cameras and defence turrets. Defence system will destroy all defence turrets and security cameras and shut down if the Power Storage Facility is damaged and isn't repaired within a time limit. When the defence system requires the player to turn it back on, they would need to pay in narquadah depending on the capacity of the defence system. Security Personnel can be killed during sabotage missions and military assaults against the player's realm. (maybe)
Race bonuses: Tauri: 25% price increase in defence turrets, and weaker Asgard: 50% price decrease in defence turrets, and stronger Replicators: 50% price decrease for security cameras Goa'uld: 25% price decrease for capacity upgrades 10x defence system capacity paid in narquadah (power supply), instead of 1x.
How to get the defence system: Players have to research a technology to enable the defence system. After they do so, they will never have to research it again, even after ascending. Once the technology to get the defence system is researched, new technologies become available to boost the power of the defence system, reducing the effects sabotage has on the defence system, and to decrease the amount of narquadah required to power the defence system, repair the defence system, and to turn the defence system back on if it was shut down for any reason. You can access the defence system from the Armory section once the technology is researched, where a link will appear under the mothership link. Clicking on the link will bring you to the defence system interface, where you can buy new capacity, defence turrets and security cameras, repair the defence turrets, security cameras and Power Storage Facility, store more narquadah in the Power Storage Facility to power the defence system, and turn the defence system back on if it is shut down for any reason.
1 capacity increase will result in the following: 100 capacity increase in the Power Storage Facility 10 extra defence turrets can be installed 10 extra security cameras can be installed 2 extra security personnel are able to be trained (maybe) The next capacity increase will be slightly more expensive than the last
When ascending: Size/capacity of defence system is unaltered All defence turrets, security cameras and narquadah stored in the defence system disappear or are destroyed
That's all i have at the moment.
Reminder: Current standings in votes has the unit, security personnel, more favorable than killable UU. Votes are still welcome until an option is decided.
I have now placed a time limit on the poll, which will last 10 more days before finishing. If there is anyone around who still wants to vote, then please do so quickly. Your vote can change the outcome of the poll.
I was thinking, in order for this to add any significance to the game, it needs to add more excitement to the game. This may not be agreed by everyone, but what if there is a "defect" or something that can sometimes help the person attacking a realm with a defence system, whether it be a covert or military attack? The defence system is artificial, but it doesn't mean its perfect. For example, a player attacks another who has a defence system. The defence system kicks in, and then the "defect" occurs. The "defect" being that parts of the defence system will not work, therefore helping the attacker because of the decrease in the amount of defences the defending player has. This "defect" will have a larger chance of occuring the larger the defence system is. There are technologies available though, which can decrease this "defect" occuring, but maybe not completely.
Of course, this is just an idea, and can be easily changed depending on what people think about it. If there is anyone here who thinks that my idea needs a few adjustments, then please tell me. I will be happy to work something out. Any ideas that can put a bit more excitement in adding this artificial base defence system to the game is greatly appreciated. sniper0432
There is only one day remaining on the poll before it closes.
I have also noticed that there hasn't been as much activity as before. Is it because everyone is just waiting for a verdict from the poll, or has everyone lost interest?
The poll has finished, and the votes stand at 6 for Security personnel, nil for killable UU, and one vote for other. I guess Security personnel is the victor here...
As i said before, security personnel would be used to run and work the defence system. They can also be killed by military attacks and sabotages.
If anyone can refine this any more than what it already is, or has any other ideas to add to the defence system, then you are always welcome to put forward your ideas. sniper0432
So no-one is interested in talking about this idea anymore? Or has the idea evolved enough already, so there is no need for any further discussion? If it is the latter, are there any GMs out there who are interested in this idea?
