If you have valuable proves/articles of yes/no, please post it!
I just am interested if anyone knows about what's behind one of biggest current secrets on the world: "what is on coca cola, and on which proportions"?

yes, the first word in its name!

It has been pretended many times that they withdrawn coca from the drink about 80 years ago. My economy teacher of first high school year said it was bs and that they still put coca on it.

I know that's what you meant...
Just that the point I posted was related to "should coca cola still be called that way if it doesn't have anymore coca into it?". ;)

Re: Coca in Cola-cola?

Well being someone who used to be able to drink 2 litres of coke every couple of hours I will just say - there's still something addictive in it.

And they shouldn't change the name. It's probably the most recognized brand across the globe

Re: Coca in Cola-cola?

I had heard/read somewhere that the bi-product of the drink's production is cocaine.

Re: Coca in Cola-cola?

People, there has NEVER and NEVER WILL have cocaine in coca cola...cocaine is the drug. Coca is the plant which is used to make cocaine, and which is used in coca cola. People from Amazonia forest are chewing it.

Re: Coca in Cola-cola?

sorry LA but there was originally essentially cocaine in coca cola. No its wasnt the drug that people associate with that name today nor was it refined either but the active ingredients were there releasing the same what was a 'mild' effect (given it wasnt refined and was in a raw form)

Anywho the answer is a good 99% chance that coca extract is still a primary product in the drink.

lets not forget the legendary recipe was changed at least 4 times before it went secret

EDIT: I should point out that for some decades now that the above is no longer the case, the cocaine elements are removed from the coca before it is used.

Re: Coca in Cola-cola?

how things work published 1990 wrote:American Author Willian Poundstone did some painstaking research which he published in his 1983 book 'Big Secrets'. He suggests that coke's basic ingredients - numbers 1 - 9 and known as 'merchandises' by the company - are as follows:

1 ) Sugar
2 ) Caramel
3 ) Caffine (although not in the caffine free version obviously)
4 ) Phosphoric Acid
5 ) Coca-Leaf extract (with its cocaine content removed) and a small amount of cola nut extract
6 ) Citric acid & sodium citrate
7X ) Lemon , Orange, Lime, Cassia, Nutmeg oils
8 ) Glycerine
9 ) Vanilla

And of course thats the syrup which is mixed with carbonated water (or soda these days) to make the full thing.

why its is labeled as 7X is still unknown, no doubt there is a reason but finding out will be hard.

It was a Mr Asa G. Chandler who recognised the the potential of coca-cola as a soft drink and the added mystique of keeping the recipe secret. However the recipe (created by Dr John S. Pemberton) has already passed through the hands of 6 people before reaching Mr Chandler.

It should be noted once again that the cocaine elements of the coca-leaf were not originally removed but left in, in their natural form. It is suggested that the cocaine elements were removed around the early 1900's shortly before or after the US gov in 1909 impounded 40 barrels & 20 kegs of coca-cola and charged the company with violating the 'Pure Foods Act' because the 'Coca' ingredient implied the presence of cocaine. At trial no evidence of cocaine was found in the Coca extract (however the original recipe did not remove the cocaine elements are in fact relied upon it for a calming & slightly addictive effect)

There is also only small amounts of Coca-Leaf & Cola-nut extract in the drink anyways. Meaning that the taste is most likey not affected by these ingedients, although this conclusion isnt proven and was only suggested by W. Poundstone in his book.

Win.

Plus, preservatives, acidity regulators, phospherous and the rest of the junk they throw into it.

Oh, did I mention sugar.
