Recently I got back into the game, the date was 9th of November. My intention is and will remain to do my best to improve this game and offer whatever I can for that to be acomplished.
One of the goals I had was to for the first time in my 3 years + career in sgw to become a mod and do whatever I can to improve the status on that area, so it was 11th of November when I saw a thread about mod positions, sadly for me to find out that the applications were to be sent till 6th of November.
So to give my last shot I sent a PM to Lore on the same date(11th) asking and requesting if I can still sent my application. To which till this day I have yet to recieve a reply from the admin. Lore.
On 17th of this month I have, seing Lore wont reply sent one PM to the next admin Buck again till this day no reply, so I visited today the third admin via msn (Robe) and asked her the same thing (the reason I havent contacted her before that was that out of the three she is the clossest in terms of professional relationship and therefor the least possibly neutral.

Anyway the response is that 5 days ago they picked a team and thats basically it.

So as I cant become a Moderator and will ommit that area on which I wished to work on I would like to ask and trigger a debate on the following thing:


The entire area is filled with spam which doesnt belong to war threads, general section and so on and on, idk exactly what is the issue...could even be the thread poll set up today that mods are afraid to get massed but anyway...start deleting posts which have nothing to do with the original topic.
They are killing the community and the game imo. Its not even that much because of the spam...its because quite some of those posts are offensive by nature cause negative effects, bad mood, argue-ing and similar.

Thats basically all I can do as far as the forum part of SGW goes, so even though its a pathetic thread which will most likely change nothing here it is, wouldnt feel ok by doing absolutely nothing although this thread isnt much more then nothing itself.
Onward to the remaining goals...

Well i dunno about you man, but i was contacted on msn *will never say who by, dont wanna drop them in it* and they told me point blank i would not get to be a mod on here because robe wouldnt allow it because im FUALL, yet i notice people that have warnings and bans are getting made mods.

Its just going back to the way it always was, so yea, anyone looking at this for future ref, get them warnings wracked up and your all set, DO NOT have your own opinion either, thats a bad bad thing.

Ive totally gave up on whats left of this community now.

Whats really funny is that when i Pm'd Lore, i told him i wasnt interested in the General or the GC as thats all about a power trip, i was more interested in the admin section where people report bugs and things, where mods generally want to help people, so it seems if you want to get anywhere around here, DONT DO IT TO HELP, do it for the ego trip, its a win/win everytime.

Im sure the mods will be all over this thread real soon either moving it/locking it, or saying its all lies, anything to cover it up really.

The applications were opened on Oct 25th and closed on Nov 5th. There was enough time to apply if you were interested in a mod position. As far as I know they will be opened on a regular basis every 3 months.

Indeed; while you may not have become a moderator, Svarun, you have a great way with the quill, or is that the chisel (what did the Romans use?). You might not see it as I see it, but perhaps staying on the outside of the team is a good thing.

When you are on the team, you have to be one with the others, show yourselves as the bloc you are. You would have to defend policies, while you might not agree with them, you would have to defend colleagues, while you might not think much of their moderating capacity. In all, you will not be able to publically voice much of your concern; not in an activist manner, anyway. Rational, politically correct arguments are, and you know this, not always the most fun to read. Naturally, you are free to add constructive criticism on the team, but you will be doing most of that out of sight of the public eye.

When you are outside of the Team, you can exercise unrestricted criticism, publically, you can rally the troops, you can spread the word of your ideas to enhance the forums, and most of all, you can still 'influence' individual moderators. Your ideas will be known to all, both moderator and regular user.
Technically, your 'reach' and 'freedom of maneuvering' is much larger as a regular user as opposed to a moderator.



In The Netherlands, we have a few 'brilliant' (and I use the term generously) politicians. Very convinced, very open, very.. identifiable. When they got into 'the team', with the ministerial responsibility weighing down on them, they started to compromise. Some principles had to go, and where at first these people were known as clear-cut principled individuals, soon they were shunned by their original support group, and disbelieved by their peers. How did this happen? They were forced into the straitjacket of policy, correctness and professionality.

Trust me, Svarun, if you want to spread your ideas, you are much better off being a regular forum poster.
(That is the primary substantial argument you had for wanting to become a moderator I read in your post? Do correct me where I am wrong.)

Of course being a mod is great. The reason I state the above is so people realise that either side of the fence has its perks, responsibilities, dis- and advantages.

dont worry Blue, i dont think they reply to anyone, the only way i have really had much success is to get them on MSN, i have had themget back to me on here sometimes but not often.

it is the reason i have asked Robe, Jack, FS and smoosh (when he was able to) to help me get in contact with people that could help coz i have had PMs to mod/admin unread for upto 6wk and probably even more, i stop checking after 6wks and they seem to be read now but not a single reply.

Ahh, SV, I didnt reply because i assumed the answer was obvious, it said Applications to be sent by a certain date, the same as if you where applying for a university, or a job, You have to apply before a deadline...Im sorry you didnt get there in time, I am, because your a great guy and im sure you could have walked into that mod team quite easily...But deadlines are deadlines.

As for the spam this and threads not belonging that, we've recently made a big fuss over that kind of thing, Focussing originally on the Fuall And TJP etc threads which kept appearing, that has stopped much of the spam and hate threads that appeared for that, and it has expanded, however we where running low on mods at one point, And many of them where being overworked, Now we have new fresh mods as well as old heads, It should all be good.

As honoured as I am all of you talking about my personal agenda this thread here isnt ment to be a reply to my particular situation although I am thankful for the response especially from buck.


Its about the things I would be working on if were to become a mod and as I wont be able I have pointed them out hopefully triggered a response even if a small one.
Although yes things are done I feel that mods admins are not strick about it enough and if I were to do what Zeratul has suggested me I will give an example of what would happen

Total of 3 posts acceptable by my criteria, others are either
a) comments which add nothing to the thread and make it just less readable
b) Ofensive by nature and triger the response by the other side resulting in few more posts which have nothing to do with war situation
c) posts that are just ment to flame and also trigger the response which has nothing to do with war

Still his post again has nothing to do with the actual war...

And so we go in circles and circles...
My suggestion:
1. get an extra thread to talk about whatever about the war and
2.make sure that the WAR thread is a WAR thread!
We would be dealing with 50 or less pages instead of 500 if that was the case


Thats my opinion and notion: me myself as also the people mentioned above or anyone for that matter is not to be blamed for it, cause you see this has become an habit a tradition here in SGW so to post whatever is OK and I am sure that in the thread there are some of my posts which ought to be deleted as well...

This should not have happaned, And isnt really acceptable...However certain things will slip through, However, I feel if we go at every thread with an iron fist approach, we will push people away, only the fuall tjp etc threads are the ones we have felt require every post monitering. Other war threads, Should be allowed a little bit of banter and fun, As well as actually disscussing the war, Its nice and builds friendships etc.

I do not support Svarun for mod. I would see myself become a GM first.

Why? As intelligent, as good a guy and as right as he may be about CERTAIN things. This thread lacks the one thing that makes a good GM. Experience.

We have seen it with Jack and Nimras (and others in the past), the suffering the forum went through because of this factor, is not something I wish to see for this place again.

As Buck put it, you need to have a tact and leniency, otherwise you push people away and force them to be more aggressive. I am a mod in the debate section, and I am very relaxed over the rules. Its amazing how rarely things boil down to slanging matches, or how rarely things cannot be sorted out with a simple PM. That can be a sign of the mature group of posters I get in there, a testament to the respect I have come to command on these forums or the years of experience I have in modding, who knows, maybe all three - I would stick with that.

On a further note. You were away from the game and the forums, you missed the deadline for applications and you were told by the admins that the final call on the mods had been made. Thats just tough luck Svarun, you missed your call, no matter the reason thats the final word on it. If you want to become a mod...in fact if you want to be a good mod, that is a valuable lesson to learn.

svarun... its true that one could mod that much away, but all that would result in is, as buck said, people pushed away from forum due to it not being free enough...

a bit too much has gotten through recently, but that is due to too few mods, and a remedy for that has now been initiated...

if you can help out by finding all those extreme cases, then it would be very helpful, and much appreciated... your roleplay would have been a good addition to the team wethinks... maybe next time you're around the correct time to apply...

Discussion about the war is meant to go into the discussion thread which is ... well rarely used compared to the war thread. I doubt that a 5th thread for our war will be supported.

While you may have missed the application deadline, I'm noticing that they haven't bothered PMing those who didn't get accepted. And I just 'lol' at some of the 'activity' of the selections.

Maybe we are meant to be psychic.
