do mercs lower your rank?

do mercs lower your rank?

it seems every time i buy mercs, my rank plummets 40 rank or so, is that just coincidence, or do mercs reflect poorly on your rank?

Mercs do not effect rank AFAIK

If they are attack or defense mercs, that are equipped with weapons, they would have an effect on your defense or strike. They should be raising your rank.

More information would be helpful.

Nope, you won't hinder your ascension. Mercs are only as stronger as normal soldiers, so their weaker than supers, but they're cheap, and enough of them adds significantly to your defence or strike.
