An idea why you believe that WHAT is not what? :?

You mean, you don't believe that it's a good idea to have an economy? A bartering system is cool with me. Whatcha got against that? :P

Let's start a hippy commune, 'kay, but without the pot and bright coloured clothing, because one smells like crap and the other just "urinates" (stupid word filter :P) me off regardless of its smell. :) Oh and none of that hippy music either... and seperate households...

Oh, but you get the idea. :P

Well, your statement made no sense semantically and that was an attempt to give it meaning. Perhaps if you could rephrase your post...

Hey, make your case, then. If you can find a more effective and efficient way for corporations to convince others to buy their products, other than by brainwashing their consumer base completely, then I'm sure they'll want to hear of it. This is especially the case if your solution doesn't involve direct threats of violence towards the consumer base and a monopoly over a much needed resource, which creates sales regardless of marketing. :P

I'm not saying it's not effective merely self defeating.

Well, I guess that it might end up killing the customer base. How much more junk consumption can the human race survive? :P

Then again, maybe they're just trying to solve overpopulation.

EDIT: What I'd like is for you to explain HOW and WHY it is self-defeating. Right now it's just a claim that you've made.

Re: Marketing; Capitalism at work or I think i'll be sick.

i had to do an exam on marketing myself less than a month ago, everything you described i noticed myself and my conclusion was:

"what a crap load of bovine feces!!! this subject is"

Some aspects of socialism failed when the human behavior and inappropriate systems collided.
Capitalism on the other hand is so fundamentally flawed no one has ever even attempted to try it out.

but hey, with current corporationism and globalisation i see repetitions of situations like bolivia and the privatisation of its water supply and countless other stuff.

Re: Marketing; Capitalism at work or I think i'll be sick.

well all i need to know about corporations is that they're inherently not good, an organization set up purely for profit and in today's corporate structured world-is in direct competition with other corporations leaves no room for anything other than the all out pursuit of profit at any cost...Enron anyone?

4 films that show this more so than anyone here can imagine are these: "Enron-the smartest guys in the room" "Walmart- the high cost of low prices" "The corporation" and last but by no means least Earthlings" (no, its not about aliens :P ) .

none of these films are conspiratorial in nature so you have no fear that i am trying to convert anyone or that i am trying to make some kind of statement. all the films give you an insight into corporate mindsets, nothing more.

the corporation part 1

the corporation part 2

if anyone is interested in just how sick and depraved corporations are in their pursuit for profit and just how much we don't care about things so long as we get our low prices (especially when it comes to our weekly shopping), then watch this but i warn you all...this is NOT a film for the faint of heart and i am not ashamed to say i cried at the inhumanity.

Business in general is an all out pursuit of profit, the entire human mind set since the dawn of time has been to be powerful, to be powerful in this age is to be wealthy.

Also, people overstate the problems of those asian factories. Sure Wal-Mart doesn't pay them well, but if they did why would they even have the factories there, as it is, they might be getting a bad deal but they're still getting a deal.

i would have thought that people have evolved to a point where all out pursuit for profit isn't necessary anymore and we don't all lose our humanity in the process...or are we as a species not quite there yet and its wrong of me to wish people were far more humane and respectful?
the problem is that money is (artificially so) low in supply but high in demand, this creates a cut throat environment...is such environment really needed and the ONLY solution to keeping our way of life on track? :?

people overstate the problem of child slavery and poor wages how? :?

2 wrongs don't make an OK mate, a bad deal is a bad deal and we people should put more pressure on corporations to act more responsibly...

but lets not go down that road and try to stay focused on the topic at hand, try watching the films eh?!

Economic

Yup. Those 2 words go to show that your theory of evolution, G, has collapsed too.

What do you mean evolved past this, this is a great system. A cut-throat environment keeps the strong on top, and the strong have to be smart and motivated. Besides who wants to no longer have money?

Wal-Mart does not have child workers, they can get enough profit from adult workers to NOT risk everything they have accomplished with children. What I mean is that the bad wages have to happen, if say Wal-Mart is forced to pay better wages to it's Asian workers, why in gods name would they have factories there? Wal-Mart would pull out and go back the U.S. for the more skilled labor and the better P.R. With that china's economy is in the dumps because a huge amount of their factories are being abandoned by large American and European companies, the people have no jobs and when they started with "little money" they now have "no money" and it becomes even worse.

Re: Marketing; Capitalism at work or I think i'll be sick.

thats a very VERY twisted sense of logic you have

so, what your saying is that there is ABSOLUTELY NO better system than we have right now, ABSOLUTELY NONE whatsoever?

think real hard before you answer that

I didn't say that, I said our system is great and who at this point wants it to change?
