Just make sure you do back out. I know someone who accidentally ascended. I don't really know how, as there are a few pages to go trough, but just make sure of it.

yeah i made it to system lord but lost most of my army not from that but because i chose a sho'va of a first prime 
ah you have to love this game you never really know what is going to happen next

What honor there is left in this world, if the First Primes betray their gods.
What race was your first prime? Goa`uld as well or a Tau`ri scum?
