UP costs...

Greetings all,

I'm looking to ascend again in less time than my previous ascensions... like a year between...

my time is somewhat constrained...

so I want to focus on the easiest ways of getting more units...

We know that if I raise my UP from 60k Raw 1,000 UP higher to 61k Raw...

I now make an additional 1k UU per day... actually 1,002... 3 * 334 = 1,002
now...using only my additional 1k UP...
we will train those special units as miners...
(special because we are keeping special track of them... hehe )

I want to find out, a good estimate of long it will take for that extra 1k UP to produce the units necessary...

to be trained as miners to produce the naq necessary to pay back my investment...

talk about a headache of permutations and combinations!


I will probably assume that those units are all trained into miners at the same time, twice each day... so that their naq doesn't trickle in... it flows into my bank at the same time...
I also want to assume that until they are trained as miners, they make zero naq...

so the units trained after i go to bed will have to wait 12 hours before being trained as miners... and in the meantime, they party with the ladies... lol

what if we included a conservative estimate of the value of 90% of those miners as regular UU on the open market... (the other 10% being lifers...)

Seriously though lets try and work this out

From 60000 to 60002 costs you 101,037,505,000 Naq. Lets assume you pay for this on day zero

You are a messiah so your miners make 92/turn
On day 1 you train 500 after 12 hours and 500 after 24 hours (assuming you log in twice)

Therefore first 500 make 92*500*24= 1,104,000 naq the next 500 make zero on the day.

Applying this logic, on the day you get your total 101,037,505,000 naq the last 500 to be trained make zero (again, to keep things simple) and the first 500 make 1,104,000*2*n (n being the number of days taken to do this). The second lot of 500 have made 1,104,000*2*n - 1,104,000

The mathematically inclined among us will be aware this is a sum of an arithmetic series, S=n/2 [2*a +(n-1)d] where a = 0, d = 1,104,000 and S= 101,037,505,000.

Solving for n we get a quadratic n^2 - n - 183038.9583333... = 0
and with a little help from excel
n = ~428 half days so 214 days +/- a day or thereabouts

So it takes you 214 days to generate the naq required to pay back your increase from 60000 to 61000. It will take you longer because you will have to pay 214*1000*1500 = 321,000,000 naq to train them as miners.

Alternatively, paying for 214000 units costs you 150 billion naq so UP is cheaper (on an absolute basis). The opportunity cost of not having the units upfront needs to be added but can't be quantified because it is different for everyone. It will most certainly better to buy if you take into account the time value of units, and the naq they generate up front. (Geez I never thought I'd use call option terminology to answer an SGW query)

All of this is trivial really because it only applies to someone who has a UP of 60k and is a turtle who doesn't farm of raid anything for 7 months. I don't 100% guarantee the numbers are right. Its been 4 years since I did this sort of maths lol so correct them if I'm wrong
