Re: in general what do you think....

Cannot really judge the majority of the human race.
Can judge the majority of the "Western people", but you'll have to take a large leap of faith with me in order to accept my gross overgeneralisations for the sake of argument.

I'm sure the Western majority is by now so apathetic that they can be considered "infinitely dumb". (Has anyone looked at the decline in new, substantial additions to our 'global source of all knowledge', WikiPedia? And the rise in discussions about the most trivial things on such a site?)

Still talking about Western people here.
What you get is people who think they need to explain why everything seems to go downhill (actually, it doesn't.. we're pretty much at a standstill in the Western world, until we've been caught up and overtaken by other 'cultures'), and they do so by responding to their environment and leadership with an increasingly self-supporting paranoia. Getting ridiculed for their ideas strengthens their belief that the rest of the world is stupid as hell, and makes them even more convinced of their 'truth'.

Western people are typically so sure that their electronic assistance is reliable and trustworthy that they no longer question their environment and, as a consequence, lose the ability to think critically, independently. When people start blaming TV for their misery, you know they are 'a lost cause'. After all, TV's have 'off'-switches. You do not have to watch TV, if you want to take a hike, for example. Most Western people nowadays are content to leave hiking to holidays and extravagant, extraordinarily rich people. 'tis a shame, hiking is much fun. Expand the argument, and see that Western people tend to rely on electronics for everything. Why? Because we can. And monkey can, monkey do. Do something too long, and you forget you once had the opportunity to not do it.

As I said, I cannot judge the majority of the people of this Earth. Western people, yes.. I can reach.. but it'll always be an inaccurate overgeneralisation with loads of holes in it. Still, I believe the core of my argument is true, and while it may not be too obvious, it'll show soon enough. :) If not, then I'll be glad to have been proven wrong!

Anyway, last thing, sort of like a parting remark.. people, wherever you are, please. Take your own responsibility and don't blame your government, your church, your parents, your brother, your sister, your dog.. you are the only one who can 100% certainly make a difference in your own life. :) (Do be on the lookout for people that change your life, they are very important!)

Good.. this was long. I would love to hear from people in other cultures. :)

Re: in general what do you think....

I think humanity has many stupid people among it, but well, those stupid people aren't always the most dangerous/annoying/hurtful ones. ;) Moreover, being dumb isn't really accurate thing, it depends why: are you lacking culture? Are you blocked to learn things (tried to learn but failed/avoided it)? do you have a low IQ? are you lazier than lazyness?

Since Universe has been first to develop something, I'll give my opinion about it.

As I said, depends what dumbness we talk about. Is it from natural ignorace or from avoding to learn, by your own will.

There are idiots everywhere, and sadly it's not that wrong to think that rest of world is a menace to us, because of what our ancestors did to them, and also because of little groups of fanatics and fools who manage to be followed by many in those places.

Lol..."public opinion" only exists since XVIIIth century, because of the critical low amount of people being able to read and write (and learn things). People in past said it was Gods being angry at them, and punishing them. It might be accurate sometimes, but in general, not better than blaming TV. As for hiking...it depends where you live. Some places are just not worth to walk in, and anyway, weather is too crap for a good part of the year (snowing, long raining...). There's nothing much exciting in doing so, unless you live near Nature, or close to a touristic place/city (Paris, Roma, Madrid...).

It's a bit easy going there...if people were able to do as they wanted/wish in their life (within laws and rules of course), without being influenced by "outside" things, I think it would be well known, and we wouldn't be where we are now. There are many things that we can't change (ie: drop of shares value we might own). It's called social determinism on career/life factor. And sadly, it's oftenly proved to be true. But indeed, rather watch out for who we meet, sometimes those people can change things.

Good.. this was long. I would love to hear from people in other cultures. :)

People are far from being dumber than before, it's just that now we have mass medias to expose it. ;)

Re: in general what do you think....

we are dump in general yes people say we do smart things for stupid and not helpful ways like the A-bomb smart for thinking of it but stupid for building it the humen race is smart but for the stupid reasons what we should be doing is
1. getting out there we have ****ed this planet up big time no denying that now theres no way to fix our proberlem but moveing planet is smart but stupid because we will do the same thing again use all its resources up nd destroy move on to another the humen race is a desiase a sutpid desiase.

2. we should stop killing each other and work witheach other even if we are differnt this is for the humen races which we all are humens.

3. we kill each other over land come on lisen you can never own anything quote this if you wont to

Re: in general what do you think....

I don't think humanity gets worse..it's just that it's the same, but with relative bigger knowledge (relative, I said...not case for everyone). People were ignorant in past. Now they can know, and are still ignorant. Sure, in past there was some very intelligent people (ie philosophers from XVIIIth century). There has always been a little part of very intelligent people, otherwise, we would never have evolved.
Humanity didn't really evolve for the better. There is hope, though. Determinism I mentionned usually doesn't concern "smart people". However, "dumb people' are stuck into it, and will remain so for long time! As for the rest, there is hope. But well, there has always been hope for "outside of dumbness" classes.
Dumb people are less likely to be concerned by important people to meet that would have an impactin their life, I think.

Re: in general what do you think....

well "stupid" can define intelligence (or lack of) in many different fields.

for instance, theres a guy i used to know who academically was brilliant. he'd consistantly get good marks in class but intrapersonally he really REALLY lacks. he just didnt know how to act in a social setting. he'd try to be involved but he seriously aggrevated the whole group. i dont mean to confuse education with intelligence, see he was intelligent academically in the way that he was like a sponge and he'd learn from his mistakes and he'd think things through but that didnt equate to a social setting. he didnt seem to understand that interrupting a group activity with silly little things wasnt socially acceptable.

for instance a few times an old friend of mine would stop by the schoolyard at lunch, the socially inept guy would hide around the corner and just watch........

now there are others i know that are quite adept in a social situation, and not so intelligent otherwise. and there are others that i know who are good socially and in other areas, and there are others who are completely inept in both.

i cant say for sure what groups hold the majority..... just that in my experience the ones with less intelligence stick out more, but we all have levels of ineptitude that are more or less visable to others....

Re: in general what do you think....

Didn't read all of thread aka tl;dr

But here's something -
You see most people think they think but they're not really thinkin' so they start thinkin' cause they thought they already thought, but they never did in the first place so it's their own little safety level. So I sit down and said, if there's all these people so smart thinkin' so good, how come every day of my life there's so many damn stupid people doin' stupid things. See a wise man once told me, he said, Mike, there's two clubs, there's the stupid people and the smart people. There ain't nobody blockin' the door at the stupid people entrance, anyone can go there. But the smart entrance, it's a little more exclusive. So what you wanna belong to? The country club, or the cardboard shack? The penthouse or the outhouse? Seems like an easy decision to me. So what we're all thinkin' about right now is what we're talkin' about, what we're talkin' about is what we're thinkin' about, and that's the whole point: you should think before you talk. So where we're at right now is a place that we want to go: a little bit of help. See: everyday, everywhere you go, people do stupid things. Three hundred and sixty five days out of the year, people not thinkin'. People that have the ability to think, that aren't thinkin'.
Re: in general what do you think....

the only thing limitless is human stupidity are people stupider now than before of course not but with so many different things looking out for us and prtecting us from our stupidity it means we can reach a whole new level of stupid action the thought process is exactly the same but instead of dying because we wondered what would happen if we "poked the bear" and doing it now we cant poke the bear but we can still find away too
Flow with it
