I dislike when people take advantage of you in war, those people deserve a mass. A random farmer that finds a low defense and goes "Oooh! Sweet! Nice hit!" and takes it? That is fine by me.
Ok what if it is a n00b with say a 1 mil army size, and they have been farming you cos you look inactive, would you mass them?
Back in my day, we massed you for disrespect!

No, I wouldn't. I would message them first and if they didn't respond maybe sab him a bit..something to get his attention to respond to me.
But I am not inactive, I always have stats unless I'm asleep and gotten massed.

A few things should cause a "red flag" before you attack someone.
Are the in an alliance?
Does the alliance have high ranked or large army size players?
Do they appear to have a large CO?
Are they a fairly large player compared to yourself?
Does it appear anyone, the player, the Co, the alliance may be able to level your account?
You should do a little research..
spy them, are they sitting at 4000 turns or withing 3 of that?
Message them, message the CO, message someone in the alliance to see if they are inactive.
Honestly if your going to just go around attacking anyone without a defense then your bound to learn the hard way. A little common sense and looking before you leap can go a long way.
I myself tend to send a message letting them know I am in a war. I don't expect everyone to know what is going on with my alliance by default. but if it continues I definitely pay them a return visit.
