ombudsman

since the other threads are closed i'm opening a new one lol ...

manetheren, i would lik to congratulate you on a well matched run for the elections. you did a great job convincing players that you would make a good ombudsman and after talking with you alot over the past few days i have no doubt that you will do a good job in making this forum a better place.

as understudy i will respect every descision you make and do my best to give you neutral advice when it is asked of me. when you are on leave i will do everything within my powers to replace you in a respectfull and helpfull way.

congratulations for becoming ombudsman and i hope you can live up to our expectations.

however on a little side note:

robe wrote:In addition to these controls Zeratul and I also agreed in advance (on the last day of voting) on the exact time to officially close the election. This took into acount the period of time the thread was inadvertently locked during the election and was not disclosed to anyone else to avoid the suggestion of closing the thread when a single player was in the lead.

i have filed in a official complaint to admins about this since this was never mentioned towards the forum users and is in violations of the original voting rules wich stated that the voting started on 12th of febuary 00.00.01 game time and ended on 17th of febuary 00.00.01 gametime. i have asked all votes made behind that deadline to be voided.

if admins say i'm wrong about this i will let this rest once and for all. if i'm proven right about this then there might be a position swap. doing this is nothing personal it's just asking the rules to be aplyed as they were stated

Re: ombudsman

Thanks zeek and thank you to those who voted for me. I will do my best to uphold the great standards set forth by the previous ombudsmen. I look forward to working with you over my term.

I understand your complaint about the end time of the election. I think Robe and Zeratul did their best to come up with a solution for the inadvertent locking of the voting thread. As I see it there were only about 3 solutions to the problem.
1. End the election at the originally posted time/date (thereby possibly excluding those that wanted to vote but couldnt during the lock period)
2. End the election 1 full day later at the originally posted time.
3. End the election at a random time after the originally posted time.

I think either of the latter two options is better than the 1st option. In any case based on what I can see of the totals and who voted after midnight, I dont think the outcome would have been different. My numbers could be wrong though.

Anyway, to all the applicants, great race!

no, it woudn't change anything directly, i would lose by 1 vote. but there are curently 2 complaints by ppl who voted for me baceausse of their vote being voided. if their apeal gets accepted then it would have changed the outcome

if however their apeal duesn't gt accepted i lose and become the understudy.

just want peace of mind about this all, and if all has been clared up and i lose then i can only say that you won the election acording to the rules.

Re: ombudsman

Maybe there should be revote for just the two of you?

A specific beginning and ending time should have been determined in advance and spelled out for everyone to see.

Ombudsman

I just want to be the first to post about this..

~ Unknown Forum accounts with low post counts (under 100) or low forum activity that had less 20m Army or new game IDs.

The above is a bit of a "jip", there were tons of posts for Manetheran that were under 100 and just randomly appeared from the dead to vote for him.

Either way, congratulations to Manetheran. Don't let us down mate. ;)

Re: ombudsman

I'm unsure what happened with the thread? Was it closed early or late?

If it was closed late, then since the rules were originally stating that it should close at X time, then any votes after X time should be voided. This is especially true as the decision was made not to alter the rule for post count. You either follow the rules as they were, or you alter them all to suit.

There was also (as far as I know) no announcement of the extra time. It was merely an oversight. Anyone who wanted to vote had how many days to do it in?

If it was closed early then I'm all - huh?

Manetheran, while you will make an acceptable Ombudsman, there appears to have been a number of alterations to things that leave questions about the validity of the methodology used and alterations that were made and how much investigation was made into particular votes as opposed to other votes. At least some votes were voided without investigation, leading to the challenges.

Re: ombudsman

In relation to the timing of the election.

No exact hour was advertised to open or shut the votes.
The thread was not shut later than advertised - 17 Feb.

Voting opened on Thu Feb 12, 2009 6:52 pm
Voting closed on Tue Feb 17, 2009 11:32 pm

Thread was inadvertanly locked between the known period between Fri Feb 13, 2009 12:33 pm and Fri Feb 13, 2009 9:10 pm.

No breached of advertising ocured.

To avoid any allegations of bias, Zeratul and I agreed on a time we thought was fair to close the thread and he locked it whilst I was alseep. I went to bed knowing the election was close but unaware of who was in the lead at the time it was shut. Neither of us communicated the time to any other parties.

Congratulations to Manetheren and Zeekomkommer on their appointments to the Ombudsman Portfolio :)

Re: ombudsman

it is but some people must always stoop to making a legitimate thread evolve around them and their own opinions of right and wrong users trying to mod users always a great way to do things  the guy who starts complaining about someone saying BS about the misunderstanding on the ombudsman vote and then starts to insult other people basically calling them stupid is just a tad hypocritical in my opinion so lets get back on topic shall we

congrats Zeek and Manetheren I have no doubt you guys will make an excellent team and be fair in all the decisions you make ;)

Re: ombudsman

could a moderator please remove all talk not going about the ombudsman or the election, those post do not belong in this thread.

now everyone mark my words here:

i have filed in a reasonable complaint about this to evry forum admin, it is being reviewed by the admin crew. and only the admin crew can descide what to do with the complaint. if they accept it it will means i was right and if they reject it it will mean i was wrong. if i'm proven wrong i will accept this 'defeat' without thinking about it twice.

this whole thing is not about FUALL or TJP. it's about the forum where 2 evenly matched candidates went for the sam position, a position that would give either one the power to activly better this forum. during this election there were talks of an assistant. this seemed like a verry good idea so i contacted manetheren about this to see what he tought and to see if we'd get along.

after talking to manetheren alot in the last week the only thing i could conclude was that manetheren is a fair a good person. he has the same vieuwpoint about this forum as i have and i am sure he will do a great job bettering this forum. cuz them amount of flamming and disrespect in this thread proves that the forum is in need of alot of improvemet.

after our talks we had descided no mather what happens we would take eachother as a assistant for a various reasons:

- if a TTF and FUALL member would work togheter noone can claim the ombudsman is biased either towards TTF or FUALL. in this times of th server war this is realy needed cuz most of you actualy think the whole forum revolves around the 2 great factions. but here this the 2 factions combined only represent 10% of the active sgw comunity

- if there was a assistant then the ombudsman could take vacations off, go out with friends/GF/wife without having to think about the forum. if there is simply to much to be done the work can be shared. all of this relieves the ombudsman of stress and gives him aditional morale to be fully neutral in any descision. it would also improve the speed in wich complaints are handeled

- we basicly liked the mssage it sent. TTF and FUALL working togheter for a comon goal. and this was all doable becausse the 2 of us were evenly matched in the voting. if we worked togheter we do not represent 35-40% of the voters each, no togheter we represent around 3/4 of the forum users who have voted. we both hope this message can be seen as a ray of light in these dark forum times.

now if you want to protest about the election first read this:
viewtopic.php?f=71&t=137738

if you then want to complain do it in in this thread. it's the discussion about the low poster votes and etc etc:
